After spending some time with a G36 on loan from Roger Davies I came to the conclusion that geared was not for me. So I went ahead with a new ungeared 36 with a bit of custom design.
Pic 1: My 36 family. My latest 36 is on the left of the KH that is on the left of the Nightrider.
Pic 2: The theme I was trying to develop was sort of ‘Stealth’. Since I have upgraded to a disc brake it is no longer necessary to have a machined brake surface on the Stealth2 rim so it is anodised black all over. This, plus the black anodised spokes give the wheel the minimalistic look I was striving to achieve. The Avid brake is carbon fibre and alloy in black and contrasting metallic grey. It attaches at the handlebars but the cable has to be shortened yet. The d-Brake remains to be swopped for a black one. The seat is KH Freeride with KH adjustable seat post. The 36 Oracle frame is a very nice chunky affair and I like the simplicity of the smooth flowing neck. The frame decals have been removed in the interest of ‘stealth’ :). The uni has yet to be finished with a black mudguard and road lights Pic 3: Still experimenting with the position of the brake level. Bars protect the lever and body but the clamp is exposed to upd’s. Working on the idea of a rubber moulding to protect clamp.
My thanks to all at Unicycle.uk.com for all the brilliant efforts they made to help me realise the uni I wanted.
The folks at Unicycle.uk.com sorted it for me. It was already anodised. Yes, I agree with you, the machined sidewall can look a bit harsh but its OK if you have to have rim brakes - although I do recall brake blocks rubbing against all-black rims some time ago.
Ali nips are fine especially if you have good spoke thread depth in them, although if you are concerned you can get black brass nipples (Halo spokes come with them and i have used them on several wheel builds)
I work from home so I could build it during the day, but that means I need to get my hours in at night. I got it together before dinner and knocked out 12kms in the pitch dark after dinner. It’s so smooth, it’s like flying!
@4umfreak, like Knoxuni, I love your 36 too. Are those the standard 127/150 cranks?
It looks like you are short like I am judging by the little bit of seat post exposed. I’m only 5’8" w/32-33 inch inseam measured from the floor. How tall are you, and is there any seat post left at all?
