Post a picture of your unicycle(s)

I think we deserve a picture of them all assembled.

I finally started making the frame for the 26x4.8” wheel. I’ll post another pic once it’s all done, hopefully before the end of the year.

Whoa! Now that’s what I call sick!

I love sick!

Did you weld it?

Are the holes so you can put different size wheels in it?

It’s machined out of a solid pc of aluminum.

The holes are just to make it lighter, and for looks. I did not make the drops yet, they will be removable, that was partly to make it easier to fabricate, I also did’nt want there to be any welding on this frame. It can fit many tire sizes and widths, but I specifically made it for a fat wheel I have.

I wonder if the holes could also help absorb impact, for Muni.

Sorry BigRob. It wasnt a serious question. I understood it wasnt for different wheels, but dont you make it less robust by adding so many holes. I was thinking about structural integrity.

What does it weigh? I reckon it must be pretty heavy, despite the holes.
How do you attach the seat? If it’s made of a single piece you’re not likely to being able to use an ordinary seat post (or did you bore it?). Will the seat height be adjustable?
I wonder if the holes would look even better if they were slightly countersunk…

I have a friend that wants to make a unicycle out of a suspension fork. I will probably help him if he ever gets it started.

it’s under 5 lbs now but will probably be 5-1/2 with the drops and seat collar. It takes a 1” seatpost, it would be theoretically adjustable but I will probably make the length of the post so it drops to the bottom and is the right height for me. C-sinking the holes could look nice if it is done evenly. I may round them over if I decide to polish the frame, or I may get lazy and sandblast it…….

It’s way overbuild compared to a frame made of tubing, I could have even made the holes bigger. Being 250lbs, I usually tend to obverbuild things. (I dont like when things break and dont typically care if they are a little heavier)

You prolly won’t notice much of it while riding when the frame is heavier.

I recently got a 24" muni and there the wheel seems very heavy. Im sure it’s me, but it feels more wobbly than riding the 29". There the wheel and frame are more in balance weight wise.

Are you gonna give it a nice colour or leave it like that?

My vote goes to polishing - it already looks nearly polished.

Reasons for unis to wobble (based on my experience and belief):

  • small wheel (smaller contact patch)
  • light wheel (less inertia)
  • skinny tyre (smaller contact patch)
  • high pressure in tyre (smaller contact patch)
  • long cranks (bigger lever to deflect the wheel from a straight line)
  • drunk rider (this one is purely speculative)

drunk riders only wobble in cartoons. Really drunk riders can’t mount. Otherwise it will be muscle memory taking over. I know that from experience, having once gone to the shop to get more alcohol after I had drunk at all at home and wasn’t allowed to take the car.

Though the tire on my 24 isn’t a fatty, it is more bouncy than the other unicycles. A duro wildlife leopard 24 x 3.00 it says on the tire. Im not quite sure what the 3.00 stands for. Thickness in inches perhaps?

I will most likely polish it, If so it will be silver and you would be able to see yourself in it.

Riding drunk is likely a problem but being just “lubricated” after 1 beer can make you ride better IMO. Has anyone else watched “The Legend of Drunken Master” (Jackie Chan, It’s Kung-Fu, not unicycles)

I’d love to see Jackie Chan on a unicycle though

Yup, roughly 75mm. But that’s also dependant of the rim width. But we digress (once again). So, to find the way back to the topic of this thread: Here are some pictures of my 20er in its current configuration. Tada:

That tyre’s got a really difficult colour - it’s difficult to judge by eye, and it’s even harder to recreate in post processing (well, at least I suck at it with my current software). It’s red, but has that white-ish hint that makes you think it’s more pink. But then you realise, no it’s not pink either, it’s just… Well, I like it, as long as I’m not trying to give an accurate rendition of it.

I haven’t, but I heard they’re planning a sequel: “The Legend of Drunken Muni”.
(I mean, I just had to go off-topic again…)
