Yes, the MTB Stout tire, and not the greatest on the road. About 7 miles of that ride was on dirt, and the race I’ve been training for is >75% dirt. (tomorrow!
)
Hey Terry - Have you tried the Dissent 29er tire yet?
good luck!
I doubt you’ll get this in time, but good luck on the Blackfly Challenge Steve. I hope it goes/went well.
Cheers,

Heres a video of mine and my friends latest ride
what´s a sinep unicycle, is that a new kind of brand or… oh wait… oh you naughty boy! ^^ xD
Hehe, you’re one of the very few people to get it!! ![]()
I really find that hard to believe. It’s a bit obvious. It’s probably just that they are giving you the benefit of the doubt, and not just dismissing it.
Not a picture from my latest ride, but at least my latest desktop wallpaper.
I learned the hard way that ISIS-cranks need crank stops as the left crank started to eat away the paint on the frame on the very last part of my ride home from work
When I had the cranks off I found I might as well switch from 125/150 to 137mm ![]()
It is not advised to use crank stops with the KH/Schlumpf hub (which it looks like you have).
Okay…now I am confused. The attached picture shows what my uni looked like after my last ride without crank stops. Mind you it was only on one side…the other was fine.
Edit : after some more searching I guess you are right…I will be removing them now, hoping my new cranks don´t do the same as my old ones…
Lunicycle has had material removed from his cranks to help with the same problem: http://unplannedismounts.com/2009/09/09/milled-moment-cranks/
Great pictures folks! Isn’t that bear a little too close for comfort?
I finally finished the video from the elsbet muni meeting. Enjoy:
Lucky for me I have never had issues with fitting KH Moment cranks onto my KH/Schlumpf hub, but I have always used brand new cranks, not ones that I have used on other hubs. Were these cranks off a non geared hub and had they been used before? Sometimes there can be slight deformity and due to the high tolerances of the hub, everything basically needs to be perfect. Other riders (lunicycle) have had issues like the issue you have pictured so he had to machine off some of the crank material to make them fit.
Out of curiousity, when did you get your hub? Is it an older KH/Schlumpf version, or a newer one with the 4mm longer axle (2mm more clearance on each side)?? I tried other cranks out, but only the Moments fit correctly on my hub, the other cranks I tried looked like your picture.
As far as I know these cranks (Moment 125/150) were brand new, mounted to the stock KH hub in the KH36 that I bought to use with the Schlumpf hub. The 137s that are on it now were also brand new.
The hub is the newer type (post M 0200) with the Schlumpf-designed bearings, so I guess it also has the longer axle. I got it in April this year.
Great video - we hope to be able to make it next year!
Testing new brakes on hills in the streets of Lawrence MA. We found a killer hill but were too lazy to walk up it… Maybe next week. I hope I have the guts to try my 36er down it!
Why didn’t you ride up?
I did a popular, technical ride in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The climbing was moderate, but the single-track downhill was too technical in sections and I had (chose) to walk those parts. The rideable parts were fun. If you like really technical downhill, you would like the Braille Trail in the Soquel Demonstration Forest. I took pictures, but they turned out lousy.
I’ll have to figure out the grade to explain the big hill, and we were not necessarily lazy, it was daunting. Maybe I’ll try riding up the thing on the 26er or Jay’s 24, but I won’t make the top. Without brakes, it’s certain death to ride a 36er down it.
