I just turn 45 , but I’m just one year old unicyclist.
Last year I rode a metric in October; 62.5 miles of the Seagull Century 2009, when my lifetime accumulated milage was about 400.
I will be riding the full century this year in october 9th, for what I’m training 45 to 70 miles a week.
With that goal in mind, I have my standard coker 36" with PI bar, evolving to what I baptized to be a “T-Rex_Unicycle”
I chopped the frame and replace the cranks for 4 1/2 inches because I’m short ( 5’ 7"). It uses an improvised mast out of a bike rack to hold a “Distance bar” , which works also as a seat post clamp allowing me to lower my seat even further. It holds also couple handles that help my mounting, and hold plenty accesories.
I installed a road bike seat replacing the original Coker seat. Works good this far on rides not longer than 12 miles, but I will take and appreciate every advice and experience of those using road bike or mounting bike seat.
I did a nice ride today on what is becoming my favorite trail. It’s the first time I brought more than my phone with me to take pix. I only snapped a couple, and shot them as HDR’s just for fun.
the bolt on is on the 36er and weld on is on the 29er. good eye. I guess I could unbolt it from the 36er and just bolt it onto the 26er for photos! Sinister Jay will be sporting one to test on his 24 by week’s end.
I was fishing up in B.C. Canada the last week of May. I took a 24" uni to ride when time allowed. We got our limit early one day and it seemed like a good challenge to ride the 14.2 miles back to the cabin on the uni. I saw 9 bears and 3 moose in one day last year, so I was keeping the camera ready.
I had my friend take a pic as I left, but it was his opinion that the trip should actually start from the lake itself and not from the truck which was maybe a whole 20 feet away from the lake. Pretty sure his plan was to get a good picture of me falling in the lake, because all my friends are wise arses. Anyway, I did’nt fall.
I made it back in just over 2 hours and 30 minutes. I figure I ended up getting about 14.2 miles per gallon…of blood. The misquitoes were siphoning me off pretty good every low spot or when the air was still. I love Canada ,eh.
Hey! You ride in Maryland? I live in Bethesda! you can see my video below but do you know DCuni? My friend runs it should check it ut if you haven’t heard it.
I am not sure if there is a “dcuni” person, if you are referring to me or my signature, I made a website called dcuni with that domain and a good while later joey created a group of the same name. I sometimes think there is a lot of confusion, as I get emails on my website from people meeting up with Joey and group. I believe that he did in fact get the group name from my website, but it doesn’t matter too much as I am no longer in DC and he was a lot more organized at planning meetings than I ever was. I should probably transfer the domain over to someone else as I don’t see myself moving back to that area anytime soon - Colorado is too awesome =]
Not from my latest ride, but from some folks I met, who then sent me some pics they took. One of them is now peppering me with questions about learning, which uni to get, etc, so it sparked their interest. This is at Thacher Park, south of Albany, New York, which is about 13 miles and 1000’ climb from where I live. As you can see, the day was golden, and not what people expect when I say I’m from NY. Here’s the Garmin track.
Nice pics Steve. You’re right - when I hear “New York” I think of skyscrapers (Manhattan I suppose), although I know the state of NY is more than just that city.
