Pictures of your latest ride continued

I went out for my first ride of the season today on my airfoil rim Coker. Prior to leaving my apartment I told myself, “Just take it easy, it’s your first ride of the season. You’re no spring chicken anymore and there’s no point in pushing yourself too much.” I didn’t listen to myself. Instead, I rode from the low 90’s and 1st Ave to 2nd Ave, then rode west to to 5th Ave and the entrance to Central Park where the cross-through is located. I proceeded into Central Park, crossed through and exited on the west side. From there, I continued west until I reached a small park that allows you to get to the west side bike path. I rode down a fairly steep ramp and then entered the bike path and rode down to around 34th street. On my way back home, going north on the bike path, I stopped along the Hudson River and took these three pics.

On my way home, rather than taking the cross-through, I rode the south section of the Central Park loop (up and down several hills), then exited on 90th street and rode east back to my apartment.

This was my first step in building my leg muscles back up so that I’ll have the strength I need for skatepark riding. I hope to ride as much as I can, without risking overworking my muscles by not allowing enough time for recovery. The rust is coming off quickly. While not quite the same as when riding my heavier rim 36ers, my trademark turns on my airfoil rim Coker have come along surprisingly decently. Well, anyway, sorry for rambling so much. I’m just excited to be riding again!

I can relate

“Alright, I’m just going to do my short loop for the day…”
“Well, maybe I’ll go this way instead and ride through the park now that the leaves are back…”
“I guess now that I’ve gone this far, I might as well take the scenic route back home…”

Then I wish for water that I didn’t bring because I was going out for a short ride

True. But I think that this forest would have been okay with the 29er too. And for beefy mountain rides (usually hiking-like small tracks), I have a soft spot for my 24.

Anyway, next time I will be more careful (and I will do some quick testing on the bike carrier when I get home )

Nice long ride today. It’s been getting a little hotter here so I took a few breaks along the way. Plenty of water as well :slightly_smiling_face:

(The 20.5mph max speed is an error, it’s probably around 17mph)

Haha, it seems we both suffer from URLMS, which stands for Unicycle Ride Length Miscalculation Syndrome. As you can attest, it is a dangerous condition that can lead to dehydration. It can also cause other issues, such as questions from your significant other and/or family, sunburn, etc. For some people it is manageable, but for others it can get out of control. There may be therapists available online who can help those who are severely afflicted. But, the first step is that you’ve got to want to change, and that’s just too big a hurdle for some one-wheelers.

All week it had been near 30 Celsius in NL. Today after wirk I wanted to wait for it to cool down before riding and then it got real dark, so hopped in the car and raced to the starting spot from where I do my 10km route. The moment I got there it started to storm and I had to fight to get on the dike. Then the rain started and in no time I was drenched, but I pushed on. It even started to hail. The only downside is that wet shorts chafe more. Because of the heat I only wore shorts and a Tshirt . After 5km the rain stopped but it was still 24 degrees.
Furthermore I got to the point where the road cambered a lot and this time managed to stay on the freestyle uni while focusing on keeping my speed. It was a fun wet ride.

After riding with the dogs this evening (photos in the “Today I brag” thread), I went back out for another ride and was able to capture these photos. You can see the moon rising in the east in the first photo

In my part of the world, the moon rises in the west…

Must be a different world, on Earth the moon rises in the east and sets in the west. This apparent motion happens because the Earth rotates on its axis from west to east. While the moon also travels around the Earth (which makes it rise about 50 minutes later each day), its daily path across the sky is driven entirely by this planetary rotation

I was not serious. Just emphasising that the moon always rises in the east and thus it was non-information. I couldnt help myself.

I guess it was non-information, except that I was hoping to communicate that the first photo was facing east, and caught the moon rising, and the second photo was facing west, which (obviously) captured the sunset.

Last Sunday we had an event called “SlowUp” where they close 30km of roads for motorised traffic. We rode in a group with our own barkeeper…

It’s important to ride with a beer in the Hand.. There also Kids at the Picture. It was a non alkoholic beer?

the kid is licking the beer bottle. even if it doesn’t have alcohol, it does taste of beer. I suspect she will be an alcoholic in no time. My wife and kids don’t like the smell of beer. My wife always complains when I drink alcohol. It makes my unicycling just so much smoother

It was indeed a nonalcoholic beer. This was only on the first few km of the 30km. I had to make sure I have enough energy for the whole round.

putting whiskey in your 0.0 beer bottle would certainly make it more of a challenge

Visiting Corning, NY for a week, and I packed appropriately.

Over the last couple days I’ve taken a couple jaunts on the g24 and g29 through Painted Post, Gang Mills, and Corning for a total of about 13 miles (21 km). I’m still scouting out some longer runs, hoping to get in a 20+ mile day before we head back home.

“Gang Mills” makes me think of a bunch of anthropomorphized lumber mills that are rowdy and drink down by the train tracks after dark…

The pedestrian bridge in Corning has a cool maze…

Some shots around Corning Glass…

… and my wife and I took a trip to see @BigRobPage and drop off a 24 for his army! I’m hoping to get back up his way for a ride before we head home too.
