No competition of course but I did ride 7,47 km to work where I used this proper hammer and also around two km carrying this 10+ kg pc case for recycling
what is the hammer for and I would have like to see a picture of you riding with the case. It is awfully big and unhandy to balance around with. Have you considered joining a circus? ![]()
I do hope in some future I can visit Norge again, once the kids a older.
My guess is it‘s a replacement tool for a spoke wrench.
Well, it is at a shipyard so it’s probably for violence against ships
and/or piping, but as an electrician’s apprentice i used it for
violence against the 70+ year old electrical installation since it was
the closest thing. It had a pretty nice feel and has clearly seen some
use throughout its history.
Due to the fairly unwieldy nature of the case it was a two hand
operation so unfortunately no pictures although it wasn’t very hard
ride with since i could rest most of the weight on the handle of the
saddle. I was averaging 16 km/h for most of the ride but the top speed was somewhat limited.
As it happens i do have two loose spokes on my 36er. Luckily i am going back there tomorrow and i could probably bring it home!
I was more thinking about trueing the wheel. But maybe you can also hammer the nipple onto the spoke with the help of a punch (obviously).
Watching and riding with some adept freewheel unicyclists at last weeks Grischa Muni Challenge inspired me to take my own freewheel out again and finally get sort of good at it. The dark and wet conditions seemed ideal for practising ![]()
Had a day off work so I took my uni for a ride. 14 miles (around 60% off road), 1143ft elevation gain, only saw 6 other people the whole time I was out and all within 5 miles of my house. I’m pretty fortunate to live where I do! Recent forestry work has made the roads a bit more challenging but I still managed to ride more of the route than I ever have before, just two sections where I had to walk (both uphill, steep, rough and loose). A good day, as is any day on a unicycle!
Nice. Is that the 27.5 version? If so, how do you like it? Can you compare it to a 29? Better, same different all together?
It is, I like it. I can’t make a direct comparison because my 29er can’t fit as wide a tyre. I’ve had a 29x2.35 schwalbe hans dampf though, which has the same tread pattern as the 27.5x2.8 Tough Tom. The wider tyre does feel a little more stable and smoother over rough ground, though not quite as fast. If for some reason I had to go to just one uni I think it would be the 27.5. I swapped the standard 150mm cranks for 137mm though, 150mm just feels too long on most uni’s.
150mm feels to long even on a bigger wheel off-road? I thought anything shorter off-road would be not enough leverage at slower speeds like uphill on lumpy stuff.
I think 150 is too long, 137 suits me fine. I think the smoother spin cancels out the less leverage, although it does take time and practice (same as everything else in unicycling!).
I have 137mm on my 27.5, 127mm on the 24 and the 29. The only one with longer cranks is my 36, which has 150mm but I will likely go shorter on that too if I use it more and gain a bit more confidence on it.
I do have a brake on all 4 of them though, the only uni I don’t have a brake on is my 19”.
I rode 125s on my 36er for about a year, and for me it felt just right. Short enough to spin faster, but long enough to power up hills or make big balance corrections if needed. I’ve gone down to 100mm a few times but I don’t feel ready for it yet.
Oh well, I say that, I’ll probably stick with 125s for another year just because that’s what I’m used to.
I was so excited to take a picture on my latest ride, but I forgot. I ran into someone that I’m familiar with in my neighborhood from both of us walking our dogs. Turns out he used to ride, but all he has is a 32” that he can’t mount to get back into the habit. I gave him my old amazon cheapie 24”, so now I have someone to ride around with in the future. Building community one wheel at a time.
Did you ride it?
20-some years ago, I would have. These days the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak
Usually, if even foot traffic is not allowed, that means conditions are really poor.
But same sign mentioning only hikers and no uni mentioned… ![]()
