Hey, how do you like the Al Mighty? I have a studded one for the next winter, but it‘s a somewhat tempting tire for summer, too.
Oh, and what‘s that funny red thing between the frame and the crank? Crank mounted brake disk?
Al Mighty is tiptop.
Loads of traction, little self steering and no tank feeling (brrrrrrr.. ) on hard surface.
go get one.
The red is my disc, yep.
Thanks for the thumbs up!
I liked the Kenda Juggernaut, I like the Surly Nate even more. Yet, I have an itch to try the Schwalbe Al Mighty (non studded).
looks like some fine place to be.
i guess north of DK.
But 04: something is way before me wakin up.
On the other hand…i have to walk our tomcat for the last 3 weeks between 4 an 6 in the morning after he hat an accident.
(“six 'n the morning” - ice t)
Indeed north of DK (63°07’04.3"N 7°48’33.7"E)
This is normally way too early for me as well, but i couldn’t sleep
05:47 walkin the tom :o)
Oh, Norway is still on my list.
Vacation is always to short for the ride.
But one day…
And talkin about to short vacation - time to pic up the cat, get some coffee and of to work. ;o)
This was taken at the halfway point of my ride. As soon as the shutter clicked on the photo, the rain started.
On a positive note, the rain cooled the ride down.
Also, on this ride I finally figured out how to ride with two hands on the M4O handle the entire ride. 90% of the ride was ridden with two hands on the handle, even in the wind and rain.
do you also hold the handle at 90º turns? I tried that yesterday, but it felt a bit awkward, so I sat straight up again holding the seat with one hand, which feels more stable.
I never leave the handle, except for taking pictures, 90° turns and UPDs.
For wide sweeping turns, I can keep both hands on the handle. For tight 90 degree turns, or turns greater than 90 degrees, I will keep my outside hand on the handle, and swing the inside hand back, to open my chest up to the inside of the turn.
If the sun’s up, no reason to waste that great daylight ![]()
I was in Stockholm in July a couple years ago and went hiking at similar times of the morning when I couldn’t sleep and the sun was already up…
32 degrees C (90 degrees F) here today, but I started my ride this morning when it was only 25 (77).
I’ve had a bad cold the last week or so and haven’t really ridden. It’s still got hold of me but I’m not feeling quite so exhausted… figured it was time to get out and take a short ride. Which turned in to 30 miles (48 km).
Highlights include putting my wheel against this piece of art I’ve probably shown before…
Cleaning up someone else’s trash on the trail, a leaflet for the trail itself that I’ve never seen…
And being forced to stop because this fella wanted to see what I was riding.
Do you ride with ur mobile in hand coz by the time I got my hands on the phone, logged in to get to the camera, the foxes or hares have long gone. 48km is quite a distance.
It’s usually in my jersey pocket, and the newer iPhones have a dedicated camera button which really helps.
Insane heat with no wind (30 feels like 34c) 44 km total and the main climb was 860 m at ~8%. Unicycle shoes slightly worn. 24"/75 & 100 mm.
And to think before I ever went to Norway I thought of it as a country with just pine trees abd eternal snow and cold…. Back then (20 years ago) I had already decided I would never go to Scandinavia, but then a bit later in my life I got to know some Norwegians that got me to learn the language and again some years later I got a Danish girlfriend for whom I moved to Denmark.
We decided to walk that part of our tour…
Some days ago I texted two people to see if they had time for a muni ride today. Three of two had time :-), so we were a total of four unicyclists. Nettles and thorns forced us to take a different route than planned. After more (but manageable amounts of) nettles and thorns we treated ourselves with a ride of the Bärenried trail near Berne. That was pretty cool. It’s a very flowy trail for peeps on two wheels. With a uni a little less flowy, of course, but I rode about as fast as I could and enjoyed some of the banked curves (switched my 150mm cranks for 145s precisely to be able to ride the trail as fast as possible, and it payed off
.
Today’s ride was a two-part ride. I wouldn’t really call Part 1 a “ride” yet. It was a 20 minute Ultimate Wheel session with the new WTB ThickSlick tire, 700x25c. I think this tire is going to be perfect.
Part 2 was a ride on the Purple Large Marge, in which I had one PR on a Strava segment, and a 2nd place finish on two other segments.
The railing is my new Ultimate Wheel practice location.
I watched at least one UW video where the foot of the rider went through the hole in the wheel during a UPD, so I have temporarily closed the hole with Gorilla Tape until I am a better rider.
