@Felgenbremse: A long time ago I rode 20km one way to work and 20km back for 1 week (for a city biking event). Fun, but it was hard and took quiet some time.
To reply here I add some older pics of my son and me riding 4km for kiting.
That must have been quite the sight! A unicyclist pulling a skateboarder! You should have had the skateboarder fly the kite (or done it yourself) while riding to make the scene complete
However, I tried to compare the pedal to rim ratio in this pic of that of my own 16":
This confirms that the unicycle in question is indeed a 20". (it might be a 19" for all I know, but my makeshift numbers actually adds up to exactly 20" )
Just before a 800m downhill.
(Uphill was 90% pushing the muni and 10% riding. )
I am more and more getting used to the bigger wheel (from 24 to 27.5") and the shorter cranks (from 165 to 137mm).
Also one-finger-braking finally feels pretty natural.
So the tire is different than the Nightrider (original/“heavy”) and King George (Ultimate) that I already have. I am not yet sure if it is better, worse or equal. I do feel that I am less controlled in some sense as it is more twitchy. I think this is due to a rounder profile meaning it turns more freely, while something like the Nightrider wants to keep going in one direction.
I am not yet sure which is more important to me, responsiveness to quick turns or being less “squirelly”. My gut feel is that you would just get used to using the one you ride the most and perhaps it does not matter.
So part of me wonders if I should have just stuck with the other tyres and saved the money. In the grand scheme of things it is not life changing or a game changer. When I first started using a 36er years ago I used 150mm cranks and these days I tend to ride something under 120mm. Dropping crank length was a big deal, switching between NR, KG and TM… not so much.
But again… it is early days, maybe I will change my mind. And if not… oh well, at least I have another spare tyre.
I’ve been cleaning the photos from my phone, coz Apple was complaining the iCloud was almost full.
Tomorrow the Nimbus needs to be taken out for a ride. The trials and 24" have been nice, but very slow.
I did a wonderful flat and speedy ride to my local Viking ship wharf on my 29er. I thought that maybe 110mm were a bit long for sprinting, so I forged myself some shorter cranks for back home.
Interesting…I had the opposite experience switching from a Nightrider (Lite) to a Vee T-Monster. The T-Monster seemed to track straighter while the Nightrider was more squirrelly. Although I settled on the Nightrider Lite since it wasn’t as heavy/demanding on my legs.
