I hear that if you break the edge first it is much easier. Our local phone books are tiny though. I would like to see someone break a NYC phone book, those must be huge!
I think what you meant to say is “too mind-numbingly difficult for your puny arms”.
Assuming you were talking to me specifically.
I’ve done it too, it’s actually quite fun…
I’ve done it. It wasn’t very hard.
Then my mom got mad at me for wrecking our phone book.
i have a friend who can break apples in half.
i can break bricks.
I did it to. Ripping them is kinda hard until you get the trick… Makes you looks like a B.A.M.F.!
Seeing this thread inspired me.
I can now do it, and just did it 3 times. I am a man now! lol
It’s more a matter of technique than brute strength. That’s not to say it doesn’t involve a fair bit of strength to do.
I tore a phonebook in half once. Then tore the halves and kept going at it till there was nothing left to tear.
I haven’t done it again, because I ran out of phonebooks.
I tried this once, except the only phone books we didn’t need any more were about as thick as my fist. I’ve torn several decks of cards in half though.
I’ve been wanting to try a deck of cards…it looks a lot harder than a phone book, which is actually really easy.
How thick are the phone books you guys have? The thinnest I’ve been able to find is about an inch thick.
Decks of cards are really pretty easy because there’s no spine that you need to break and there’s not all that much that you need to tear.
The thickest phone book I’ve torn was about two inches thick…honestly it’s really, really easy, just watch that video I posted and do exactly that, and it just comes apart in your hands with very little effort.
I would think decks of cards would be a lot harder, mostly because they’re smaller so you need a stronger grip on less area.
i can break wind.
Oh…I thought you guys were talking about those 3-4 inch wide phone books, and tearing from the seam or the side, not the top/bottom.
Nah, the seam is the right way to go. I can’t do it from either way though.
I agree with Habbywall on tearing from the seam, although I call it the spine. When tearing it from that side the pages are torn easier because they don’t flex as much. Still, breaking through the spine of a phone book is often some feat.
