there are three places you can lock up a uni
1.through the spokes(im pretty sure most deros carry a spoke wrench)
2.inbetween the tyre and the crown dero"hahah I can steal his Uni i will just undo those nuts w/ my 11mm spanner"looks down at the nuts"Damn"
3.inbetween the rim and the frame(same joke as above)
And replace the allen key bolt with a Torx drive bolt. No one carries a Torx driver on them even if they’re out looking for bike parts to steel.
When I was in college I rode a Schwinn and locked it up on campus just by running a lock through the wheel. No problems with people messing with it. A Schwinn is also cheep and junky enough that I didn’t need to stress about parts (or the entire uni) being stolen.
I wouldn’t lock my muni, trials, or JC Coker in those same conditions on a college campus. The unicycles are too valuable and the seats with seatpost and all I value at $300 or more so I’m not leaving those where they can be swiped.
i’ve got a fairly thing chain (actually chain) and a pissy small padlock, I run it through the spokes, then through the handlebar of the seat. I then take my quick release clamp off and keep it with me.
switch your quick release clamp with one of those double/ triple bolted seat clamps, i don’t think 2 many people these days carry around a set of alan keys
I carry an alen wrinch set, and I dont have one, my friend does, cause his seat lossens up, but on your seat, you probably have a handle, run your chain through the handle too.
If it’s a standard seat post you’ll probably be okay - neither the seat nor the post can be used on a bike, so any thief wouldn’t be able to sell it so probably wouldn’t bother nicking it. If you’ve got a rail post, some locks can go through the rails.
Same way everyone else does. Of all those bikes parked with no seat and no front wheel, most of them were not stolen…
I think a locked unicycle, though, is more likely to be a target of vandalism rather than theft. I don’t know why, but because it’s different from the other stuff locked up there, some people feel the need to “leave their mark.” I don’t like locking unicycles in public places if I can help it, and hardly ever do. But then again I have a car…
My muni fits under my lab bench. my coker doesn’t. I lock it up in a highly visible place; lots of eyes and foot traffic as a deterrent form random acts of vandalism.
Because it’s not nailed down. I don’t think some thieves need any more reason than that, which has a lot to do with the choice of whether to leave it locked in a given location.
