Issue playing playing uploaded videos

Does the embedded video play for you guys? It doesn’t for me, but I can download the file.

same

In this case, it works after clicking the play button. Before clicking it I see a black rectangle.
In other cases I see the preview picture, but the video won’t load.

Same for me, here.

I can’t play the video. It its black with a play button. I can download, but I can’t play the downloaded videos either. (However, I haven’t tried to play then in an appropriate app.)

@Wheelou you said you couldn’t play the last video I posted either. Is that the same problem?

It’s a CDN[1] thing. Probably some misconfiguration on my end to fix, but I don’t know what yet.

Yep, @PedalSprell, these were the ones I had in mind. But the same thing also happened to others.

Sorry, I assumed it was my fault. The video is just a WhatsApp attachment a friend sent me so I am not sure if that messes with the formatting. Somewhere he did post a compilation on YouTube too…

No, it doesn’t. I have to do some (unknown yet) configuration in my CDN service settings and it will be fixed.

edit: I’m not sure it was that. I don’t know what the issue is.
I reduced the file size, uploaded it, and this version works. I’ve replaced it in your message.

I’ll have another look at the issue if it occurs again.

Please post here guys if you have trouble playing other user-uploaded videos on the forum

For me it plays fine in Foxfire and not in Chrome or Edge. I did not try on my phone.

Oh, it works on Firefox mobile as well, nice catch! That’s helpful :v:

Thanks for the effort to get to the bottom of it and for updating in the original post :+1:

It plays for me! (Using an iPhone via Safari).

The video works fine on Safari (v17.0) on MacOS.

As an aside, the new animated emojis don’t seem to work on that version of Safari (they just appear as the text string).

I’ve just noticed the animated emojis are working in Safari now – thanks for fixing  (I don’t think my Safari has updated).

I didn’t do anything, glad it works :stuck_out_tongue:

I can play the video above in Firefox, but not the ones in this post: Micro Machines: Tiny crank and tiny wheel Megathread - #56 by PedalSprell
Opera tells me for those: “This video cannot be rendered because your browser does not support the codec.”

Are you using Linux and if so, which install method did you use, snap, deb or rpm?

Apparently, it depends on several factors:

Opera 114

Support info Browser version
○ Partial support Released Sep 25, 2024
Notes Usage
🅒 Supported for all devices on macOS (>= Big Sur 11.0) and Android (>= 5.0), for devices with hardware support on Windows (>= Windows 8), and for devices with hardware support powered by VAAPI on Linux and ChromeOS Global: 0.77%

Firefox 136:

Support info Browser versions
Not supported by default, but can be enabled Released
Notes Total usage
🅒 Supported for devices with hardware support (the range is the same as Edge) on Windows only. Enabled by default in Nightly and can be enabled via the media.wmf.hevc.enabled pref in about:config. 10-bit or higher colors are not supported. Global: 0%

Opera on Linux with either rpm or deb installs has special limitations with proprietary media. I know why, I worked there for years. So I strongly suspect that if @Eric_aus_Chemnitz is using one of those installs, his problems are nothing to do with others that people are hitting in this thread.
