Girls dig the unicycles

yeah

when i was on the tarka trail (a bike track) i had a group of boys cycle beside me and talk to me!

I agree with evilewan, the sex appeal comes from confidence.

But I think unicycling is one of the greatest confidence boosters. I remember when I was learning how to ride, I thought it was imposible. But then I started riding it and it felt so great to accomplish something that looked and felt so impossible.
I feels like you could do anything after that.

I have definitly met alot more (girl)friends after learning to ride, with and without the uni.

enough said.

now that is a good unicycle quote, sofa.

so concise. so true. so awesome.

I noticed that after being asked the same questions over and over again, I started to come up with witty responses, like, “how long have you been riding that thing?”
“Oh, about five minutes.”
Ha ha. Hilarious! Okay, well it’s funny to people around here.
But seriously (somewhat), being on my unicycle has forced me to become more outgoing because of the constant attention I get. It really has shaped who I am. (I sound like I’m on an infomercial. Geez!)

lol

1-800-UNICYCLE worked for me!

Thanks unicycle.com

I don’t really think my confidence has gone up post learning to ride a unicycle. I’ve always been reasonably confident in myself.
The “being ugly” thing is letting me down

Men still tend to use the internet somewhat more, so you have a skewed
population here as well as in the roster. In the unicycling club I
used to go to, there were more females than males. In my family, as
well, more females than males ride unicycles.

Reposted on the forum because it got not forwarded from the newsgroup.

Where do you get your statistics from Klaas? I did a search for statistics on internet usage by men and women, and I saw no recent evidence of men using it more. I didn’t find anything that was very recent and conclusive though, and I know statistics can be used to prove anything. I find the 75% prediction very hard to swallow.

Women, from approximately age 20 to age 50, are more likely to be Internet users than men. From about age 60 and older, men have higher rates of Internet use than women

In January 2002, women surpassed men as online shoppers. ABC and CNN both reported that women comprise more than 52% of all online users, a trend expected to continue to rise to more than 75% within the next two years.

I think different cultures must have an effect on the genders prodominant in Unicycling. Using a generalisation it seems to me that similar types of countries have more female than male unicyclists and vice versa. I wonder if UNiVERsE II will feature some female riders.

I wouldn’t hold my breath. My limited experience is that women tend to be more into freestyle/distance than Muni/Trials. My perception may change after NAUCC.

i myself did some research. i found this website to have some statistics. now, whether you believe anything you read on the internet, a la the hummer story, is up to you. but at the bottom, it says:
GVU’s 6th survey results:

Gender
Female: 38.5%
Male: 61.5%

rowan’s statistics only talk about shopping. we all know women like to shop, but a majority of computer geeks are male.
(“all generalizations are wrong. including this one”)

any conclusions? what were we trying to show? i forgot. but chicks, or as they like to call themselves, women, do dig the unicycle. so do guys. it works out well for everyone!

Clearly, the males seriously outnumber the females here on this forum. Anybody doubt that? Read your Internet usage statistics closely. I’m sure the 52% female one was based on amount of stuff bought, or some similar number. We are not spending money (or doing anything much practical) here, we’re just being geeks. I think the male geeks tend to outnumber the females.

The Internet places for unicycling are populated by people who have both the interest in unicycling, and the level of geekdom to lead them to be contributors. People who just lurk here might have more balanced numbers.

Out in the world, I’m sure the overall statistic is pretty close to 50-50. Some unicycle clubs, like Panther Pride I think, have a majority of female riders. But MUni, as far as I’ve seen or read, seems to be predominantly male.

But let’s jump over to where most of the unicyclists are. If you believe the MYS Web site, probably the majority of the world’s unicyclists are in Japan.

“Up to now, the unicycle has spent over the 95% of all of 24,000 elementary schools in Japan. Now, 8 million of the elementary school children can ride unicycles.”

This is talking about how the JUA got unicycles established with the Japan Ministry of Education in 1989, and unicycles have been bought by all those schools.

With 8 million riders, the statistics in Japan possibly override whatever differences there may be in all the other countries. The numbers for Japan are probably about equal too though, as the unicycles are used by the “general” school population. I hear more about girls being unicyclists in Japan than boys. Girls are definitely the predominant riders at artistic competitions in Japan these days as well.

Just a reminder that the real world and our little newsgroup/forum world are two different things.

I think I read that in a newspaper but it may have been a few years
ago. It is still consistent with my impression but I’m sorry to have
presented it as a fact.

I think i scare more girls away than I do attract them to me, largely due to my inherant ugliness, and this added to the unicycle gives me the monkier of ‘freak’ rather than ‘interesting, clever cute guy’…

Sam,

Please check your PM’s. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I sent a couple a while ago.

Thanks,
Andrew

I am confident and happy when I’m unicycling. Confident I’m going to fall off at some point, and happy to do so (all part of the learning process). However I have this strained look of concentration on my face like I’m trying to pass a water melon. I think that must cancel out any residual attractiveness. No matter, I’m spoken for anyway

Have fun!

meeting Chicks on Unicycles…

I met this really cute girl (25 years ago) at a water park. She was a lifeguard there. I flirted with her 1/2 the day and then left the park.

I got my unicycle out of the car and rode the 3 miles up and down the main drag of town (a huge tourist area, thus tons of ohhhh’s and ahhhh’s every minute-- great for the ego).

The girl’s Mom comes to pick her up from work and she starts telling Mom about this cute guy flirting with her today. Her Mom says, “Well, I’m gonna show you a cute guy, he’s riding this one wheeled bike through town!”

When they pass by me, the lifeguard flips out when she sees me, telling her Mom, “That’s the same guy that flirted with me all morning at the pool.” I found all this out after we started dating. Several years later we Married. So, YES, Unicycle riding can be good for the Single Life.

And we lived happily ever after! Wrong. She dumped me after 2 years, citing Irreconsilable Differences. Hey, but it made for a good (and 100% true) story up to this paragraph.

I am now very happily married (12 years) to the most awesome babe on the universe, with 3 daughters. The oldest two girls are learning to ride Uni’s right now. --chirokid–
