getting mother convinced

Re: getting mother convinced

Unicycling is best learned before the bones become brittle.
Falling is part of learning to ride a unicycle.
Even after 31 years of unicycle riding, I still fall from time to time.
And most the time when I fall, I land on my feet, and very seldom have to
roll.
But the odd time you get smacked down hard on the pavement. So I have taken
to wearing my bike gloves.
As a matter of fact, be it slipping on a patch of ice, oil, or anything that
puts me off balance, I usuaul recover before I actually hit the ground, and
I have always thought, that is because unicycling has honed my sense of
balance, and counterbalance.

So unicycling actually increases your odds of not hurting yourself when you
fall, or minimizing the seriousness. The worst injury I have had from riding
a unicycle is wacking my shin with a metal pedal, as my foot slipped off,
and the pedal came around at high speed and struck my shin. Deep gouge, bone
chipped. Much worse than it sounds.

My first unicycle was made from a discarded tricycle. It had a metal seat. I
hurt my self pretty good when the wheel struck an imovable object and the
metal seat was jammed into my groin. And while it is much more difficult to
learn, you can learn to ride a unicycle on the grass. Even riding backwards,
I never hurt myself, but I do glance over my shoulder to see where I am
going.

I have hurt myself was worse ridnign my bicycle. Like hitting the pavement
at 70Km/hr…wears right through your protective gear, and takes a pound of
flesh too. I have been hit twice by cars. And tried to move a fee trees that
ended up on the trail a bit too quick.

Unicycle riding is the best way to minimize injuries that occur from one
losing their balance. Witht he skills learned from unicycling, you find that
you are more like a cat, recoving from falls without injury. I think that
mothers have a duty to teach their kids how to unicycle. And if they can’t,
let them learn on their own!
