If all else fails and a hammer is in order put the cap hump up on a piece of wood then with a block of wood on top hit the block with only enough force to spread the cap slightly. You can also use a vice with two pieces of wood to keep the jaws from maring your cap then very carefully tighten to spread the cap. Do it in a very slow calculated manner stopping to check your fit often, continue untill the bearing fits and the holes line up.

While I know it’s not fun to “make/force” brand new parts to fit their intended use, I think the options presented by @Bug72 should work. It might take a lot less taps with a hammer than you think. Protecting the paint before hammering is what I would do, even if it’s only a strip of thick Gorilla Tape, or maybe a few layers of masking tape if you already have that.
