Forum update one year anniversary šŸŽ‚ What's your opinion so far?

So far, the best feature of all, is I could actually join this one! I spent several months in limbo land waiting for my account to get verified which never happened due to not sending the confirmation emails, until the upgrade.

I like the forum a lot.

The one feature I think would be really handy is a polling feature. The electric unicycle forum has this and it can be very useful creating you own polls and everybody seeing th results, especially when the poll is thoughtfully created.

Every time someone freshly opens the unicyclist forum, there appears a big notification that is welcoming the old unicyclists forum’s users to the new forum.

It’s been over a year now, and thus I propose: get rid of this big outdated notification for good.

That notification is not interesting for current and new users at all. For those using a browser that delete cookies between session, it shows up every visit.

There’s also the globally sticky thread ā€œWelcome to ā€¦ā€ which might be a better location for such information.

Believe it or not, there are still people reading this and mailing me to get their account access back even one year after the forum migration!

But yeah, this serves far less purpose now than just after the migration anyway and I’ll get rid of this banner soon.

Yes,exactly! D’oh! I guess I missed that one!

Ok, a little less intuitive than in another forum I’m on, but seems to work! Click on the settings icon (looks like a cog).

That is a vaxxing question to poll about !

Double vaxxed?

I have four VAXes, microVAXes actually (or VAXen depending on how you want to pluralise it), they haven’t been powered up in a long long time and my VMS license will have expired. I also used to have a VAX-11/730 mini back in the mists of time – but I think you probably mean something else

Before I was be able to attach pictures here. Now I can’t. Maybe I’m too old now.

There are at least a couple ways to add a photo.
One is to use the Upload icon and select a photo from your computer.
Another way is to copy the URL (web address) of an image that is posted online and paste that URL directly into the message.

A problem I’ve noted a few times is that the quote feature does not work all the time. Note in my reply above that the screen shot shows a quote but that quote did not show up in my reply.

Other ways are drag and drop the picture from your computer in the text editor, or copy a picture to the clipboard and then paste it in the editor.

Full quotes from the previous posted message, when we are replying to the message, are automatically removed as there is no real purpose of having a message, and the same exact message underneath.
I’m not sure I’m clear enough, I still have troubles to explain myself in English

edit : I’ll let this official message speak for me:

This is what happened:

Canapin explained it correctly

You can even paste a picture with ctrl+v when it’s in your clipboard. That’s what i did with the screeshot above.

My opinion of Discourse has always been good, so I was happy to see it turn up for this forum too.

A year on and I can’t really think of anything new to complain about, so :+1:

The reason for a full quote is that sometimes there are multiple sub-subjects covered in one thread and it just makes it clear exactly what is being replied to. At least I know why some quotes are removed and I can work around that as needed.

The nice thing is, that you have two reply buttons. One at the bottom of the topic thats general. You reply to the whole topic without adressing a special person or post. The second one is beneath each post. Using this one, you reply especially to this post. If you have done so, discours will show it:

If there is no qouote, it’s clear that you replied to the whole post and not to a single aspect of it. If your reply only refers to a certain aspect / sentence / paragraph, then quoting is the way to go.

I think, discourse with all of its hints and automatisms make, in the end, reading this forum much more uncompicated, fast and joyful.

One thing I think I haven’t seen mentioned is the CTRL+F search function. I absolutely hate that I can’t use the browser search function and it make me sure the forum’s search function.

When I use the search function I want to be able to locate a word or a phrase in a page quickly. Now I can’t use this function anymore whenever I’m inside a thread.

I’ve looked for a way to disable this in the settings but couldn’t find anything.

That’s one of the only annoyance I have with the forums so far. I’m glad they are back online. Thanks for all the work put into it and for the community to keep it alive. If only it could be as active as its golden days! Oh well

Yeah, I don’t (always) really like that too…
It has been subject to debates on the official Discourse forum, and they chose to keep it as it is.

To avoid this, what I do on Chrome is pressing F3 instead of Ctrl+F. It opens Chrome’s search function instead of Discourse’s.
