Favorite Unicycle

If you could only have 1 unicycle, what would it be? I would like a Nimbus 20" freestyle that is also good for Muni. Posting links recommended.

Maybe this uni with a Muni tire: https://www.unicycle.com/nimbus-ii-20-unicycle/

I already own it except regular tire.

Why a 20"? That is too small. For me it would be either my KH26 muni or the Nimbus Oracle 29 muni. Those are my go-to unis. I don’t care much for tricks, but they are good enough for me to make the distance up to 20km if I want to.

I am too short to ride anything bigger than 20", except the Nightfox, though that is too big to have as your only uni. I ride to school on my 20", which is about a mile, with hills. I have also gone distances such as 2 miles on a 16". Not practical, but possible.

The other unicycle dude in my town is 16 years old. He primarily rides his 36" unicycle everywhere. He is not as tall as me. I hardly ever ride my 36".

The jump down from a 36" is the same for everybody however small or tall you are. I reckon it is just what you want to get used to.

Hey a 16" I don’t have yet. My smallest is the trials uni with 19". I’ve ridden trips of 10km with it several times.

The solution to all your problems is short cranks!

With 45s a 16" becomes usable (10+km/h cruising)

On a 20" with 75s you can eat miles for breakfast (100+km)

And with 45s on a 36" you would only need around a 60cm inseam. Literal childs play!

If i could only have one it would either be 36" or 24" although mine’s broken (i have not tried any sizes between them)

This kind of question is exactly what I’m facing being that I’ll be going to university in a couple months. The dorm rooms aren’t big by any means so I’ll probably only be able to bring one, maybe two unicycles.

The 36er is almost guaranteed to be brought over as I really enjoy riding it, though I plan on riding it on the weekends rather than on-campus from class to class. For a campus commuter I’m between a 20" or a 26" wheel. Given I could probably bring some tools to swap out cranks, I was thinking a 20" with short cranks for commuting and some longer cranks when I feel like practicing tricks. Plus I could probably just bring it into class and not have to worry about locking it up

In terms of just a general “favorite” unicycle
The 36er is probably the one!

What about trial ?

My KH26er is my absolute favourite, and my go to ride. I enjoy all my unis, with my 36er being my second choice. However, lately I’ve been using my QU-AX 24" for shorter 30 minute rides.

That is not a problem since cranks are easily swapable

If you can ride a night fox you can ride a 26 or 29

I don’t ride much nowadays, and I only rode a few unicycles, so I don’t have a lot of choices, but my favorite of all the unicycles I’ve ridden is my QX 27.5:

Light and probably my favorite size wheel. I’m just missing a spooner.

I’d like to replace it one day with the RGB equivalent, but it’s very expensive, and mine has no issues, so a replacement is unnecessary.

Not true

That does look like a real good uni

I suppose it is. The only downside to me is (I let you translate in your language):

Some people, me included, experience slight issues with q-axle, on which the crank becomes a bit loose after some time, and some of us also lost adjustment caps while riding for the same reason.

Besides this, I’d say this is a very good unicycle.

That is a very nice unicycle.

I never think in terms of replacement with unicycles. I just want “just one more”. Nowadays my wife frowns upon it. I might just put it in the shed and when she asks tell her I’ve had it since before we got married. She doesn’t know the difference between unicycles from 10 years ago vs new unicycles anyways.

I like the looks of your uni. Do you have any preference between KH, Nimbus and QuAx?

And how many wheels could I have for this one unicycle?

Nimbus Oregon, or better yet: a custom made frame like that of the Oregon, but with 100mm bearing spacing instead of 125mm.

But honestly: Having only one uni (no matter how many wheels I would have for it) would suck big time. It would be either too small, too big, too slow, or (seldom) too fast for what I wanted to use it for, or the tire would be too narrow or too fat. I have currently 4 (plus my old one that was my only one for the better part of about 35 years) unis that I use regularly, and I‘d have a hard time to let one of them go - they all have their specific purposes and are all used with great pleasure.

Looking at the uni in your profile pic (I assume it‘s yours) I think you should be able to find a 24“ that you could ride. Some shops also offer to cut the seat tube and make a new key hole, so you you could drop the seat further. There are also 22“ unis, but that‘s a rare wheel size and not as easy to find as 20“ or 24“.
For muni, bigger is better, at least up to a certain point. For distance, the biggest you can ride is probably the best.

No, I don’t know much about unicycles, I only have owned 5. A 20" beginner Only One, a heavy 29" off-road Qu-ax, a 24" KH, and a 27.5 Qu-ax.

And a custom 24" freewheel I only used for 10 minutes before selling it.

If i could only have one uni it would be my 19" Impact Gravity i bought from @louis_dbl .
I’m happy just in a small space trying to learn some tricks for fun.
I’m a complete over thinker and riding this uni with all my concentration trying to learn something new turns off my over thinking side of my brain.
