That seems like a cool alternative to a Knard if I believe the bike reviews out there, but what about on a uni?
Fugsworth rode one. He now rides a knard. That should say enough…
The knard is a great tire and I can’t understand people ttrying to replace it…
I have heard the knard can be… slippery when wet
haven’t ridden one though, so couldn’t say for myself.
The chupa autosteered like crazy for me on my Oregon. I tired different pressures but couldn’t find anything that worked for me. I do think the chupa would be a better mountain bike tire whereas the knard is better for muni. I really like the knard for most conditions.
The knard sucks in mud though and surly has admitted that. :cool

Recommendation for a fat fork
This is a bit off topic but I figured there may be some overlap of fat bike riders subscribed to this thread. I’m looking for a recommendation on a disc 26" fat bike fork and front wheel I can make into a peg unicycle. I want to compare the suspension a rigid 26" fat wheel affords compared to my 20" peg unicycle made with a LoopWheel. The thing I’m most interested in is a fork with an inner diameter of 1" and outer diameter of 1 1/8" which can be difficult to determine. I’ve ordered from Planet X USA in the past so I’m leaning towards getting an On-One fatty fork and front wheel from them.
My guess is, if you want to use pegs, you dint to find a Bolt-on wheel right? I dont know how your pegs are attached, but if they are like the good ol’ bikes where they just screw on the axle, you’ll need to find a 135x10mm fork. The hub is going to be harder to find aswell, your options would either be to use a rear hub that is already bolt on (singlespeed hub for 135mm would be excellent) or convert a fron fatbike hub, but that’ll be complicated.
How are your peg attached?
Thanks for the info! Yes, all the pegs I have are bolt on. 14mm would be ideal but I have peg adapters for 10mm. I may end up just buying one of those cheap fat bikes from Target/Walmart (which have bolt on forks) and possibly get a better tire. Then I can use the front end as a peg unicycle and the other part as a different unicycle. One issue is that the inner diameter of the steerer tube may be undesirable. I want 1" so I can fit one of the standard unicycle seat post sizes but I’ve had issues with Huffy’s tubing before. I don’t know about Mongoose or Triax.
Question to all the riders on fat wheels or riders who want to get a fat wheel…
If you are not thinking about riding a 5" tire, would you rather have a frame that fits only 4" or have a frame that is about 1/2" wider and fits 5" as well just in case you want to try it (like me)?

As a guy who had knee-bashing issues with a Triton frame I would go with a frame that is 4" max for a 4" tire if the frame comes straight up in-line with the seat.
If I were going much wider than that I would prefer a frame that had the crown to the back, not unlike Lobbybopster’s creations, then It could be future-proofed with plenty of extra room without worrying about too wide.
I ride a 4" and am very curious about a 5", particularly for deep sand riding, but, like Eric, I have knee bashing issues on a Triton frame and I’d be concerned about that on a wider frame although it may be mitigated somewhat with a round crown.
I’d go for a 4" clearance on a 4" wheel…
Also, if you’re interested, I would go both 24x4 and 26x4..but in case of choice between a single size only, I would buy a 24x4.
I find the frame you made for my Lou to be nice looking and perfect fit (I don’t know if it could accomodate a 5" though).
I used to bash my knee a bit on my 29er the year I got it but ever since I am bashing free. I like having options so I would say the 26x4.8 / 5.0 clearance is a plus especially because you can run a 29x3.0 in the same frame.
P.S.: I am more into rubbing my calves on the tires these days and I am developing a bald spot because of that Is a new frame design can solve that ?

I’d be interested in comparing the height of the crown of a Triton VS the Flansberriums. The round crown was my #1 choice for the fatty (anything that is Muni actually) because of the knee bashing issue.
I am also very curious about trying my Lou on my Muni. But I dont feel like I need bigger. I ride a Surly Nate and it’s amazing, I have a fatbike that is setup with the Bud-Lou combo that I can use when trails are un-uni-able. But I’m wondering if it’ll make the uni much better to ride.
a 24x4" can probably fit in a Flansberrium 26x4". The curve of the frame is probably not pronounced enough to rub on the wheel… there’s a way for sure to fit both
the 29+ issue should be solved on the 26x4 as I can see lots of riders using the fat frame on a few fat wheels. If I remember I dont need to raise the crown by alot to have the correct height for the 29+. It’ll just make more clearance for mud when using the 26x4
I doubt I can solve the calves and tire issue… my calves love my tire as well
According to the quick measurement I did when I gave a try to the Surly Knard 29x3.0 it is very close in diameter to a 26x4.8.
That is true that you can ensure crown clearance without the lateral clearance.
With 2 frame versions you are covering everything:
-the narrow one (that fits 26x4.0 / 29x3.0) for the leg-bashing riders
-the wide one (that fits 26x5.0 / 29x3.x) for the paddle-boat riders
Is the Nimbus 29" Oracle frame wide enough to take a 26x 4-inch tyre?
I was going to build a fatty on an oregon frame.
But UDC UK have the 29" oracle on this weeks special for £30 discount.
I will call them tomorrow and ask - but thought someone here would know if the width at the crown tapers out to +100mm to squeeze a Kenda Juggernaught in.
The KH 29" quotes 100mm clearance.
I was hoping the Oracle will be a similar spec or better.
The answer is NO - the 29" oracle will not take a 26x4 fatty tyre
