I thought it fitting to make this thread since one was made for MJ. We also lost 70’s icon Farrah Faucett today, after she lost her long fought battle with cancer. Like millions of other guys, I had a huge crush on her when I first saw her famous poster. A real beautiful person inside and out. R.I.P. Farrah.
Of course, there’s so much more controversy surrounding MJ, compared to Farrah having virtually none, this thread will probably also die before its time.
I almost feel sorry for those close to Ms. Fawcett, as her passing is completely overshadowed by MJ’s. I didn’t grow up when she was at her peak, but she’s still a lovely lady, and from what I know, a tremendous person. A sad day, it is.
Maybe it’s a blessing that the media is giving much more coverage to MF; it will allow her family & friends to grieve in peace.
They say things happen in “three’s”.
Earlier in the week, Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson’s famous second banana and announcer, who started with Carson before their 30 year run on the Tonight show, also passed away. They started their pairing in a show called “Who do you trust”, and all who knew Ed said he was the most warm and gentle human being they ever had the pleasure and honor to meet and know.
The 1970s version of a viral video, the Farrah Fawcett poster was the kind of sensation that could only happen spontaneously. A few pieces of trivia about this iconic wall hanging, first released in 1976:
• Ms. Fawcett did her own hair;
• For the backdrop, photographer Bruce McBroom used an old Indian blanket that had been covering the front seat of his '37 Chevy;
• The photo was shot in the back of then-husband Lee Majors’ Bel-Air home;
• No ice was used during the making of this poster.
When someone close to you dies, you don’t check the “share” the media coverage is getting. I’m with Jerrick and Terry on the fact that the excessive MJ publicity probably helped the people close to Farrah have a little more peace.
They were two very different events also, in terms of Farrah, we already knew she had some really serious cancer and was close to death. Based on something I’d heard Ryan O’neil say a few days earlier, it sounded like she was very near the end. Plus there was a whole movie about her cancer battle. All that adds up to lots of time for her fans to “prepare” for her untimely death.
But MJ was a total surprise. Also he was a bigger star, with more controversy surrounding him (and more recently).
Apparently Farrah was not happy with the final choice of shot either. She wanted to go with a more serious, or at least less toothy smile. Fortunately she did not get her way in that instance, as her explosion of fame may not have happened!
Charlie’s Angles trivia: The show was built around Kate Jackson (the “first” Angel), who I guess had the better acting resume. Farrah and Jacklyn were perhaps chosen for their looks over their acting abilities. This is, of course, standard practice in show-biz. It took a long time for Farrah to be taken seriously as an actress, but she did make it.
Let’s face it, kicking the bucket the same day MJ joins the common tradition of all humans to die is not the way your publicist would have arranged it.
I agree with the opinion that this may be a strange blessing to the hot blond’s family. I think celebrity is a burden unless you are making the $.
I don’t believe in the “afterlife” , in the sense that anything I will write after this dot is pure bullshit that I am making up. This dot… .
Farrah was so hot that if if there is a god, he could not kill her.
When Farah Fawcett died and went to heaven, she was greeted with open arms at the pearly gates and God told her he would grant her one wish for the good life she led. God she said, I would like to make the world a safer place for children and puff Michael Jackson was dead
