That’s kind of like being a celebrity because you’re a celebrity - but without the celebrity bit?
Well I would have been really surprised if this clown didn’t ride a uni.
The photo was taken before I learnt to ride uni, ironically enough. It comes from a mural that sits in a restaurant in London. It looks like it survived the 70s.
Hmm, that could set us back 20 years if it gets out! Quick, burn it!
Hee hee! There should have been a title under it: “Where’s the other meal?”
I guess my fiance, Gigi Edgley, would be considered as a famous person as she is on TV (Farscape, Rescue Special Ops, Tricky Business, etc.) and I taught her how to ride. Here is an article about it her favorite things: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/ipad/gigi-edgleys-favourite-things/story-fn6ja7nc-1226360343569
And a video to go with it: http://video.couriermail.com.au/2236412150/What-Gigi-Edgley-cant-live-without
Here is the article for future reference in case those links don’t work:
ACTOR Gigi Edgley was trying her luck in La La Land in her early 20s when she met her now-fiance, world champion unicyclist and performer Jamey Mossengren.

“After the work stopped because of the writer’s strike in 2007, I was going to come home, but Jamey convinced me to stay,” she recalls. “He taught me to ride and for the next year, we did street performances all over the world.” Since returning home, the 34-year-old - who stars in Nine Network drama Tricky Business, Mondays at 9.30pm - has kept up the hobby, often heading out on her unicycle for hours each day, accompanied by the couple’s golden retriever, MacGyver. “It’s great exercise and hang-time.”

Gigi can’t live without…
MACGYVER
One day, Jamey said, “I’ve thought of the perfect name for our child - MacGyver, after the TV show!” And I said, “Well, I don’t know about that, so let’s get a dog.” He’s the naughtiest little thing, because we let him be.
DANCE
I grew up doing contemporary dance and ballet, but I’ve started burlesque as well. It’s empowering and a great way to discover your inner goddess. It’s nice to be feminine at times.
GLOBE
This belonged to my late uncle; he was a sailor and quite whimsical. My sisters and I would spin the globe and put our fingers down saying, “This is where I’ll meet the love of my life.”
TRAPEZE
Because of my dad [showbiz promoter Michael Edgley], I grew up backstage at circus shows. There’s something about flying through the air and feeling effortless.
YOGA
In this industry, you need something to keep you grounded. I’ve started doing Bikram yoga, which is in 40-degree heat for an hour-and-a-half.
FAMILY
There are seven of us kids; they put up with me through all my ups and downs. Mum [Jeni, top] is spiritual; Dad [above centre, at his wedding to Edgley’s step-mum, Justine] is about working tirelessly - two energies critical to what I do.
SKINCARE
My skin was really tired when I was filming [sci-fi series] Farscape, because of all the make-up. My sister Capi is a naturopath and used me as an experiment for her skincare line; the range is amazing and all free trade.

Yeah Jamey - great post
Bloomberg Business Week had an article a couple months ago about tracking down Ted Bezos’s (head of Amazon) biological father - turned out he was a professional unicyclist from the 60’s, and had no idea that his son was one of the more successful people on the planet.
I found part of the article online, actual magazine has more, including another uni photo.
Lewis Hamilton?! No way! He is now considerably cooler than before (And I thought he was pretty cool already!)
And congrats for his world title!
(and congrats to Bouin Bouin who unearthed this story on the french forum!)
Wonderful! I want one of each of those machines.
He will only be cool after he does a shoe,y .
I don’t have a screencap or anything, but NBC showed a clip of skier Mikaela Shiffrin wobbling along on a unicycle. She couldn’t turn right! Kind of ironic for a slalom skier, who specializes in turns.
Nico dropped this picture in his YouTube channel last week.
In the meanwhile, 11 years later, both became worldchampion.
11 months ago I was unicycling towards my home and saw a quarter-million-pound costing Aston Martin standing at the same crossing, on it’s way to Tommy Hilfiger to sign a new sponsor-deal. I expect Lewis -being a unicyclist- must have noticed me, but unfortunately no interaction.
Not to dredge up the past, but I just noticed something about this picture (that Super G posted in 2010; photo probably from the early 1940s or so). I think they deliberately wanted the pose with the pedals horizontal. The ball of his slippery-soled dress shoe is comfortably on that front pedal, in the horizontal position. But he appears to be perfectly balanced. If true, it means he wasn’t idling, and the shot was a set-up.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that; it’s an excellent unicyclists’ portrait, I just don’t think he’s really idling. Maybe that would have made it necessary to use a powerful flash, which wouldn’t have given the nicer lighting they wanted. I can make excuses all day; Mel Hall was a unicycling superhero.
^ I recon he is leaning on the wall and there is a stop in front of the wheel just out of the shot. A bit of pressure on the front pedal and it would be locked in place.
I think the “perfect balance” is relative, lines aren’t parallel. But true; it looks somewhat odd.
But why would you want to take all that risk?
Because shutter time wasn’t like it later became?
His direction will be forward, not towards the wall. So unless the front of his wheel is blocked your theory would hold water.
What also very good could be the case is that the podium isn’t level; in many theaters of that era that’s more a rule than exception; it was meant to give the audience a better view, and especially magicians hate such floors.
