Can't find whitewall 24 x 1 3/4 tire

I went to 2 different local bike shops, and they told me they cant get them. Only black wall. I ordered one anyway.

This uni was a Xmas gift when I was 9 in 1969.
I’d like to keep it original.
(a tire with “Schwinn” on the whitewall)

Anyone know where to find one …?
(one should last me till I’m 55 or so … lol)

I’ve enjoyed exploring the site here , and others.
I been on the ‘web’ for awhile …
… and never thought to join a unicycle org.

I’m ‘old school’ level 3’ish I guess.
I never knew there were "ratings’.

I’ll be trying my skill at some stuff I’ve never seen done before.
(sorta like GED by mail … )

I think this is what you are looking for:

unicycle.com has a lot of other great unicycling related products too.

Sounds like you’ve got a very old tyre. 24x1 3/4" is not the same thing as 24x1.75" and most likely they won’t be interchangeable - see Sheldon Brown’s tyre wisdom page

You are correct.
That’s why I settled for a blackwall.

I’ll keep riding the one I have even thou it’s cracking, and the whitewall is peeling. lol
(until a blowout, they sound cool … heh)

The S-7 rim is not the same.
From what I’ve read … the original S-7 rim I have is two layer steel also.

this is my uni

good pics here of a very neglected one like mine

The old “Unicycle” tires from Schwinn are long gone. Though you might find one languishing in an old bike shop, expect the rubber to be over 20 years old. I think the last of the actual whitewalls were made before 1980. The unicycles with the S-7 rims were last sold in 1983.

You should be able to keep the rest of the cycle original as long as you can find the tires. That’s the best thing for an old Schwinn anyway. If you want to upgrade, start from scratch. Otherwise you’ll just be compromising all along the way.

I have a couple of 20" whitewall “Unicycle” tires for my Schwinn Giraffe waiting in the wings. We’ll see how they hold up if I ever wear out the one that’s on there…

The last one I bought was new,

I bought it at the same bike shop I mentioned earlier.
I didn’t think I bought my last tire 20 yrs ago…
(I thought 12 or so… )

, but, then again … time flies …

Well , I hope someone remembers me, when they see one.

Thanks all replies

I been reading up on the Muni fun …

I gotta try it … dont have the cash for a new one though…

If someone has an old 24" one that wants cash back for thier next purchase, PM me.
(I have PayPal)

Bedford Unicycles has lots of vintage NOS
Schwinn “UNICYCLE” S7 tires in stock if you are looking to restore an old Schwinn unicycle.

You can get replacement tires that fit S7 rims
as well.

24 x 1 3/4 tires are also available.
If you really want a whitewall let me know.
I can most likely get them.

Darrel … ya … I really want a whitewall …

Just look how nice they look on mine

Here’s a pic of my uni

I shined it up for everyones enjoyment …

Ready to * POP * soon …

If you look close …

the tire has a big “UNICYCLE” on the whiteall also …

For anyone following this thread.

I called Darren, but he doesn’t have them.
(has BW … not WW)
He is looking though, and will call me if someone will “cough” one up.

Seems those who have them , won’t give them up :frowning:

Stingy bastids …

I have about 15 20" whitewalls and some 20" black walls as well.

I could only find one 24" whitewall today. I have some 24" blackwalls too.

I had to take the brown paper off the 24" whitewall tires for the last guy. They use to come
wrapped together with thin brown paper strips.

I want to keep this one for historical purposes.
If I can find some more I will sell them.
I have about 400-500 tires in stock right now.
I have 5 locations that they could be in.
I haven’t looked at them all yet.

So far I have called another collector and Tom Miller at the Unicycle Factory. They have some but
want to hold on to them.

I will let you know when I come up with some.

Darren

Darren,

How about this offer …

I’ll send you my old one, (the one in the pics)
(I’ll clean it up even more)

If, you sell me that new one you have.

If you want a better picture of it let me know.
My tire has no real wear on it.
(it’s just cracking from air pressure)

Once the air pressure is gone,

, it will look OK for a wall

You can always put the bubble side towards the wall.
(It most likely wont be visible anyways with no air pressure)

Please say “yes”

I cant see someone wasting a good tire on a wall.

P.S. Can I get the number to the guy in MI, if you wont give yours up…?

Gah … !

My new tire is warped…

What a pain in the …

I saw that the sidewall looked off center, but put it on anyway …

It feels like I’m driving over a small divit on each rotation. :frowning:

Cheechee, you really should stop your habit to type within quoted
text. That way, I (for one) cannot find what you actually typed
because it doesn’t stand out in any way. That is, in my Usenet reader
which is set up fairly standard; maybe it’s better in the forum
display since no-one else seems to complain.

But maybe you typed nothing?
