This new thread was created so it could start with the link, and hopefully stay closer to the topic, while the previous one got a little messy. Please try to keep your posts here limited to useful information (or useful questions) about this event. If your question won’t benefit anyone else, best to ask it directly to Corbin via email. Requests to stuff to add to the site are welcome.
Time to start booking hotel rooms and campsites!
Hi im trying to plan this trip and I cant decide were to stay there. Id like to be staying around other riders rather then being away in a hotel so do you think there will alot off people camping? or alot off people in one hotel? because it would be great to hang out with people after the rides
thanks. Teddy

Hi Teddy,
I’d recommend camping, but as for hanging out, we will all probably migrate to similar places before and after rides to just chat, watch videos, etc. My house in the hills (where the trials comp will be) may be one of the central points.

Hi Corbin,
This will be my first time to join a unicycling event & would like to make sure I am not too slow for the rest of the guys. I am currently practicing for the muni portion & would like to know how far one must be able to travel before dismounting & catch one’s breath or take some water. Thanks…Eric
Hi Eric,
The most strenuous (24") muni ride is the one on Saturday, and 5 hours has been allotted for it. I rode it for the first time last Wednesday with Corbin and Louise, and it took us about 2 hours at a relatively quick pace. We figured that it was about 9 miles long, and there’s probably around 1500 feet of climbing. I think with 5 hours you could probably walk the whole thing if you had to, and the pace will probably be pretty slow just because people will want to stop and play on a lot of the trail features. Also, I’d bet that most people will walk most of the two long uphill sections.
Boy it must be nice for you, corbin, and soooo many others to live in that general area, and be able to ride those various trails whenever you want to! I wonder why there are so may uniyclists in the Santa cruz area, but relatively few in one of the largest cities in the US!
Thanks Phlegm…Now I know I don’t have to force myself to rush catching up with the faster guys, & in the process hurting myself & spending less time riding & instead healing injuries…Like Muniaddict, we envy you guys for living in a “muni-heaven” & just to do it there every weekend would be great !!
Camping…
Heads-up if you plan to camp out during the weekend…
I took a look at camping possibilities for Oct 12-14 and found most of the major campgrounds in the Santa Cruz area are full. I found one that had still has walk-in sites available (as of Aug 8th) at Manresa State Beach. Click on the Reservations button (upper right) to reserve a spot.
Cheers,
Aaron
Thanks for the heads up! Camping in the bay area always fills up fast and I have been trying to tell people to reserve a site early!
I plan on going to both CMW, and the 5th annual San Fran coker ride Sept. 9th! I’ll be driving from the LA area so if anybody wants to carpool, drop me a PM.
Ride from the Bay Area?
I was wondering if I can hitch a ride there and back w/ someone. I you’re leaving from somewhere other than the north bay (I’m in Santa Rosa) or really early, then staying over the previous night would be nice.
I’ve been teeter tottering on the fence weather or not to go because of the cost of the trip. But I think I can handle it. (Missing class at my JC was also a concern, but now seems to be mute.)
P.S. Anybody know of what breaks I can inexpensively fit on my DX? (under $50 or so)
You don’t need brakes for any of the trails in Santa Cruz. I’ve ridden at least one of these trails on a muni with 145s and no brakes. It’s totally rideable.
If you insist on brakes, get a magura set off ebay for cheap. I can help you bleed them at muni weekend if need be. It’s really easy.
Corbin,
What is the T- shirt going to look like?
Thanks
Haha we should have one for the roundup too! I’d buy one for sure!
I’m not sure yet… we are still working on it…
Parking for U-Con/Pogonip Trail
Hi Corbin,
I am camping at Henry Cowell SP. Will we be able to make a really short ride to the parking lot described below for the U-Con/Pognip trail or do we need to drive and park like everyone else?
U-Con/Pogonip Trail
What: Single track muni riding, beginner and advanced options. Bring a lunch, or go out to lunch in Santa Cruz after the ride.
When: 9:30 am–1:00 pm
Where: Dirt parking lot off Highway 9.
Driving Directions:
From West Santa Cruz: head south on Highway 1 (aka: Mission St), and turn LEFT onto Highway 9
From East Santa Cruz/Aptos: head north on Highway 1 and turn RIGHT onto Highway 9.
From the start of Highway 9 (at the intersection of Highway 1 & River St & Highway 9):
Drive approx. 3 miles on highway 9. You will pass a large sign on the left that says “Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park”.
Look for a large dirt parking lot on the right hand side with a lot of cars. Park.
Thanks
I am in the process of printing out all the directions and maps and putting them in a folder to keep in my van during CMW.
I am looking at all of the descriptions and maps…
Everyone should really appreciate the amount of work that has gone into this. It’s really tremendous.
I don’t want to jak this thread and have it become a thanks thread, but the next time you see Corbin and Jason and others that contributed to the organization of this event, tell them thanks - in person.
CHEERS!
hey rod – you will want to drive; it isnt close enough to the camping areas.
And i’m glad you appreciate the time we spent on things. Man-- the trials course alone has consumed a ton of hours/days.
Thanks!!
Corbin
