best trials pedal?

i was wondering what the best trials pedal is. something thats light, sticky, and has good durability for crank grabs and what not

I happen to like the snafu O/s pedals. Ive been using them for a few months, and like them alot. Danscomp has them for 30-40 (depending on color) sealed.

I’ve also heard good things about the Odyssey CIELENCKI pedals. I’ve never personally tried them though.

The Jim Cielinckis are nice too. Theyre pretty similar to the old snafus. They have the nice pins and concave shape.

No question- For trials there’s really only 2 (maybe 3 if you cont one brand as 2 types) pedals on the market. Snafu makes a great pedal for trials. I ride the old version simply because I was wary of having molded pins on the new version. After seeing the state of Kris’s new snafu pedals after he treashed them, I think that the new versions are great too. I’ve heard the Jim C’s are great, too, and that’s the next type I’m gonna get simply because I hear the pins on those are more durable than those on the snafus. I’ve had 2 pins fall out on one ride with my new snafu pedals. I was able to replace them, but I was rather frustrated. I need to use locktite next time.

Others may mention the primo’s or such, but I don’t like how much they weigh or the fact that they have pins in the center of the pedal, which interferes with skinny pedalgrabs.

I hope this helps. Try doign a search on this topic. There have been tons of threads about it.

Not a huge number of people seem to agree (or just haven’t tried them) but I LOVE Odyssey Twisted Pro’s. They’re grippy, light, durable for pedal grabs, etc (the pins are screwed in from the other side unlike some silly pedals where they screw in with an allen key on the outer side…they’re just get mashed up and you can no longer screw them in or out), and feel awesome. I really like the shape of them and even when you land your foot on them at right angles (spun around 90 degrees past where they should be) you should find that it’ll plant itself in position easily.

The only thing I dislike about them is that the spindles have bent on two sets of mine. I bend all my pedals though. I really want some with nice extra strong spindles. You used to be able to get Odyssey Twisted Pro’s with a nice strong Chromoly axle, but you can’t anymore I believe.

The other thing is they’re quite cheap in price for such a nice product.

My snafu’s were $15 USD. Beat that:p .

As for:

When they get smashed you can simply use vice grips. I think the ones that go all the way through the pedal are worse, actually. Firstly, it weakens the pedal frame, and secondly it makes it easier for the pins to push trhough the body. I’ve broken the frame on my left Zuzu in only 3 pedalgrabs onto concrete. The break was around one of the pins. All of the odyssey twisted pro’s I’ve seen have pins that have been pushed through the pedal body, making them irreplaceable. That is my arguement against that type of pin, although the jum c’s seem to work.

make sure that they have heaps of reinforcement throughout the pedal

i had ones (twisted Pros) and both of them snapped (basically in half) when i tried to pedal grab something like concrete.

Fair enough. I really don’t do many pedal grabs so I guess that’s why I haven’t had any problems other than bending them.

Andrew

i recently got some Jim c’s havent riden much trials in a while but they seem pretty grippy, and i had no problem on grabbing ledges with them. cant remember what i paid for them either £20 or something closer to the £30 mark, not too pricey either way

Happened to me also.

Any opinions about the DMR V8 pedals?
I just got a pair and i think theyr great!

I use V8’s and reckon they’re pretty nifty. I’ve lost a few pins from them, but I think that happens to pretty much all pedals. However I did manage to snap a V8 into 3 pieces when I fell whilst hopping about on some rocks. And I buggered up another pair. But, yeah they’re good pedals. And I managed to get them el cheapo from a mate who works in a uni…no a bi-cycle shop so can’t complain really.

the V8s are real good

even better. probably the most expensive pedal on the market are the V12s at $120 AUS ($86US)

last you a very long time… but not a good pedal if you want to grind on it.

Here in sweden the V12 are like 120 dollares.
And i thught my V8 were expensive…
I wont grind on them for some time, maybe when i get better.

Believe me, you can get a much more expensive pedal.

No, I’ve got a pair of Atomlab Trail kings, which retail in the $110 range. They work well, but Im always afraid Im going to break them. The tractions is wonderful though.

i use a pair of £10 wellgo’s the do the job and if i bend them which will pretty much happen with any pedal its like piff only £10. I am sure every1 else will dissagree tho.
Ben

I use Odyessy triple trap just because they were on sale for $17.
If i had more money,though…

there pretty good, they dont ahve pins, but rows of jagged teeth that you can sharpen w/ a file or somthing.the only bad thing is they wiggle after a while.

Agreed. At CMW Ryan had a set of specialized pedals that were around $150 MSRP. He got them wholesale because they had been tested to have the strongest spindles on the market. THey also looked super cool and had tons of grip.

Last time I used a pair of the cheap wellgo’s they literally blew up in the air sending shards of low quality metal at my friends. If I had come down on the spindle I would have died. Or my leg would have got messed up by the shrapnel that remained on the spindle.

Trap pedals are bad because they seem to wear through shoes fast. Also they get all bent up and lose grip from dropping the unicycle and pedalgrabbing. For a few more dollars you could get a really nice platform pedal. Snafus are around $27. But I would say spend the extra 3 bucks and get the OJC’s, they are so nice.

Edit: And you don’t really need sealed pedals IMHO. They are just extra money. When non sealed pedals loosen up just repack them.
