Yes, thank you for playing. BC is not the greatest name for those things, but it’s way better than “impossible.” Not everyone gets the BC comic strip in their newspaper.

We could call it a peg wheel, and it would be accurate and still fit the BC image…

I like the name BC Wheel, it’s better than Impossible Wheel. I think we should come up with a better name for the Ultimate Wheel too, it sounds cheesy.

Here’s another BC comic

If we’re looking for a term to replace “BC wheel”, I vote for “coaster wheel”. Coaster wheel describes the contraption quite accurately. It’s better than “impossible wheel”.

Unless of course your wheel has platforms, so John Childs’ idea is better for this I believe. But I personally like BC, we don’t get the comic strip here (I’m pretty sure at least…) but it’s quite similar to what he rides around. But it should never be called impossible wheel. That name needs the be phased out, fast. I’m looking at you unicycle.com!

The problem with BC Wheel is that B.C. is a U.S. comic. People outside of the U.S. don’t know about the comic and therefore have no idea why it is called a BC wheel. The other problem is that the comic is not as popular as it once was so younger people in the U.S. have never seen the comic and are unable to make the connection with the BC wheel name.

It was a good name back in the day. But now it just causes more confusion. Time to phase in a new name. Let’s just pray that the new name doesn’t end up being the impossible wheel.

I found some fun things on ebay, B.C. Oil Paintings!

Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, and Here

They’re not oil paintings. They’re animation cels.

What you get is a hand drawn main character on a clear plastic sheet. That clear plastic sheet is then laid over the background. The background in these cels is a color photocopy.

I’ve got one with Thor on his wheel. It’s a neat bit of art for the wall. You do need to frame it so the clear animation cel stays in place over the background. The ironic bit is that the frame is going to cost as much as the art that’s inside it.

I’m outside of the US and understood the BC in BC wheel to mean Before Christ, as in 2000 years BC. So, basically, very old and simple technology. I’m not sure if the B.C. in the comic (which I only know of because of you folks mentioning it in relation to BC wheel) does mean that or not. But even before I knew about the comic, BC wheel rang the right bell.

Klaas Bil

The Before Christ thing does make sense – I’m sure they invented one wheel before they invented 2 or 4.

We have the BC comic here in Australia in the weekend papers I believe.

It rang a logical bell, but not the right bell.

Look, if you guys insist on having a meaningful discussion, then take it over to RSU.

The BC wheel has been upgraded. Adjust your own BC wheels as needed.
