Added a new authentification/registration method (Discourse ID)

Discourse (the software that runs the forum) now provides an authentication method called Discourse ID that works across all Discourse websites on the Internet as long as they have enabled it.

More info:

It doesn’t change anything for users, it just adds an authentication and registration method along with the usual ones.

I’ve disabled three of the available authentication methods:

  • Github, because it’s available through Discourse ID

  • Google, first because of many spam account registrations, and then because it’s available through Discourse ID

  • X/Twitter, because it didn’t work anymore and I felt the same bliss getting rid of it as when I disabled Facebook registrations three years ago.

Registration via an Apple account is now possible through Discourse ID.

So nice that the uni forum has no relation to Microsoft.
Again they have a big outage. Earlier this year it took a week before I could get to my mail and tonight many Azure services are offline as well as Minecraft which I was gonna play with my daughter and all support messages expected the problems to be with the client apps because … Microsoft services will never crash. Pfft so fragile it all is
