Best known for his series “Kung Fu” and the movie “Kill Bill”, David Carradine was found dead at age 72. He apparently committed suicide. :o R.I.P.
New details suggest it was perhaps an autoasphyxiation accident. Either way sad he went so early. I hope is was a sexual accident. I would rather my last moments be doing something kinky trying to get my rocks off than in a state of misery and suicide.
Safe journey, Grasshopper!
When you can snatch this pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to leave…
Very sad indeed.
Other good ones:
Master Po: Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
Caine: No.
Po: Do you hear the grasshopper that is at your feet?
Caine: Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?
I’m thinking Kill Bill. Life imitates art. Anyone seen the Bride?
No matter what role he played after, I always associate him with the Kung Fu series.
Nothing was better than watching him beat up stupid, round-eyed crackers on that show. The hokey eastern philosophy didn’t even get in the way that much.
RIP.
Kung Fu movies are going to be just a little bit safer now.
A Sholin monk can walk through walls
Penn and Teller are jealous to this day. There is magic, and then there are people who can pull off physical feats so extreme as to cause the lay observer to postulate the super natural as the most likely cause. And then there is the legend of the Sholin, where skills learning was a monastic religion. Thus was born into popular culture of the game classes. Magician, juggler, fighter, and monk priest fighter.
Dave was of course an actor. Kung Fu was an awesome TV show when I was growing up. Sure, he was just an actor. Yet he was the standard of how a confident fighter should act. He effected the minds of millions who went on to learn great skills, and knew how to act humble once they had learned them. Thank’s Dave, you sucked on skills compared to Bruce Lee (who you beat out for the part in the Kung Fu movie that preceded the TV series). We needed more then just Bruce Lee’s excellent skills. An actor who could live a life of humble dignity, while faking Bruce Lee like prowess.
As far as his cause of death goes, I will withhold judgment. Although his room had not been broken into, lock picking or getting a hotel key is trivial.
His family and the film crew of his current movie did not believe he was suicidal. I have not heard of a suicide note. It is reasonable to conclude he may have committed suicide. However, he was working and life was OK. It is extremely rare for a note less suicide to occur this way in a successful person who is not emotionally isolated.
The “I like to jerk off with a noose around my neck” theory. I think this idea is coming about because the rope was also tied around his dick. Knowing zero about Dave’s personal life, I must draw on my personal experiences as a masturbator.
I am 51 and the idea of hanging myself while jerking off seems unappealing. I have only heard of much younger people dieing this way. If Dave was that into this sort of sex, I would think he would be better at it by age 71. It is reasonable to consider the kinky jerk off sex accident as possible. It seems implausible to me . Here we have a man who loves learning skills and he kills himself masturbating at 71. Possible, hey, nothing to be ashamed of. I hope I am that frisky in my 70’s. I just doubt it. I think it is most plausible he was murdered.
I think he pissed off some low punks and they offed him for street creed. He had a huge ego and was staying in a Hotel in Thailand and he pissed off the wrong guy.
Conspiracy theories?
Already?
I dunno. i can’t imagine punks wanting to deal with the naked body of a 73 year old man.
cut off a thumb, maybe.
Does the internet photo of him hanging change anyone’s ideas about cause of death?
I don’t know, something strange. It sounds like it’s just not cricket. Or Grasshopper.
I think popular consensus is that photo is a fake.
Autopsy show it was NOT suicide.
They haven’t figured out (or reported) the details yet.
He had his hands tied together behind his neck.
Ahhh so it is believed he was murdered?
they don’t say that either.
accident?
That’s probably the most concise, honest synopsis of that show that’s possible to write. I liked the show, and I’m sure it planted the seed in many to learn martial arts, hopefully for the right reasons.
Last I heard, I think the “unofficial” theory was still auto-erotic asphyxiation. Gross if true, but he wasn’t famous for his private life.
Have you heard the unofficial theory that NYS Governor Nelson Rockefeller died of a heart attack during intercourse with a young mistress.
