Los Angeles Muni Weekend details

Friends, for a short while, the LA and Santa Barbara mountain unicyclists have been toying with the idea of hosting a small, informal LA Muni Weekend. No website, no registration, no banquet, no competition, no t-shirts, just pure, uncut, muni action. The time has arrived.

Date: November 10-12, 2006

(Note: Maps to follow)

Type of trail: Shuttle.
GSpot is a big air MTB course. Lots of drops, jumps and steeps, along with plenty of bypass options, too. Part single-track, part downhill trials, part “playground.”
Trail time: about 2 hours.
Devil’s Slide is a wide, bumpy, downhill rock slab.
Trail time: about 1 hour.
Rides will be finished by appx 3pm.

Accommodations: Sadly, we don’t have much to offer in the way of floor space at our houses, so it’s going to be an “fend for yourself” system. You can look up motels online - there’s plenty around. We recommend you get a place somewhere near Pasadena (Glendale, Flintridge, Arcadia, Monrovia), as this is roughly halfway between all the scheduled rides.

D’OH! Those dates are no good for me! I have to be somwhere on Nov. 12 (on a plane) and will be preparing for the trip before that. Got any other great weekends available?

Wow, riding with you guys twice in a month! Awesome - see you there.

Scheduling was a bit tough since Southridge is a stop in the national mountain bike DH circuit. Even when NORBA isn’t using it, local clubs and universities hold races there. Both adjacent weekends are taken, so we’re sort of stuck on the date.

Day’um, that’s a pretty stiff schedule. Those trails are not as strenuous as the trails in Santa Barbara but more technical and high-flying. Good thing is the weather will be perfect. Normally those trails are blazing.

Bring a camera. This will be one for the ages.

Sorry, I won’t be able to make it, either.

But, I think I’m going to be in LA the following weekend, so it would be cool if we could get together for a ride on Sunday.

Bummer

NO!!! wont be able to make it ether. but have fun without me. :frowning:   :astonished:

prolly won’t be able to make it; those early start times are not good for me as I usually start my rides after 3 to avoid harshest sun and heat. Have fun though!

WTF?? Of course you’ll make it. It’s November, it’s cool so quit being a sun wimp. I’ll be there and you’ll be bummed to miss it!

Well…i might go! Hey, I’m gonna pm you now about this weekend!

when I first heard about this, Ifigured, that this would be up in Santa Barbara on the longest and grueling trails. The drive up with those long trails would have made it impossible, but looking at the schedule, I was really surprised. Of the Friday and the Sunday ride, I might be able to do one of the short ones. HMMMMMM… Knock on wood.

Cheers.

I hope to be there! It’s guna be EPIC!

same!

I’ll prpbably do at least the G-spot! As the mountainunicyclingLA says: “It’s almost impossible to find without help!” Haha! That was priceless!:D:p :sunglasses:

It’s also the perfect opportunity for you to kwitcherbitchin from the other thread, and go out and VIDEO the G-Spot in the way it deserves to be videoed. These guys are dropping some huge lines, and we’d all be obliged if you’d do us a favor and capture some of them. I appreciate all the dialog, but I’d rather see JL and Morgan and Entropy executing on those fine lines in full-motion splendor. Since they don’t care to film, only Terry can make it happen.

Thanks in advance for stepping up!

TB

Haha! I plan on it! Let’s just hope Mr. “Murphy” doesn’t show up! But then again, maybe if he just makes a a few quick visits it will spice up the video!

Yeah, Terry. Get out there and film so we can live vicariously. Let’s see some of the 6 ft drops to steep slabs in full motion!

Maybe put some music from BTO on it, this time.

I’ll give him some music from the last decade to put on it!!

Terry, if you’re gonna show up and film, show up on Friday for Suicide Connector. That’s got some steep stuff up top and plenty of sessioning possibilities down low. Also some hard rolling lines. We’ve ridden this a few times with a group (with the San Diego boys, Mango and Jake) but it’s usually been tool hot to really milk. This time it should be cooler and I expect some legendary falls once the friendly competition gets underway.
