Classical music does require a certain mood. It’s hard to transition directly from Greenday to classical. When I listen to classical I have to start listening to classical and not transition into it from popular music.
Beethoven and Mozart are the traditional and typical classical pieces. Beethoven is of course always good, but I find Mozart to be boring and too predictable. There is much more out there and different classical styles and periods. I find the twentieth century classical works to be the more interesting stuff. Have a look at the twentieth century section in the music history 102 link. You might find something you like in there. I’m not going to suggest anything specific cause that will just make you not like it.
I also happen to like harder rock along with classical. There is classical music that can interest the rocker. That’s how I managed through college. Hard rock and classical. Most of the classical I listened to was (and is) twentieth century works.
on the subject of download-music age people. I have about 12GB of all purely ripped songs, all taken from CD and majoritally bought using my money. They are all converted to an MP3 format and the only time i download music is if i am unable to buy it here in Tasmania.
I find when i cannot think of anything i want to listen to i put on one of my many Coastal chill albums, any of the Unwind albums or my Lazy sunday CD. all of these are excellent compilations and have the abillity to change ones mood to relaxed etc no matter how you feel.
My fallbacks include Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, and Iron Maiden. Or if I’m in the mood I’ll play something classical (a Bach organ piece is always good for me).
