wrist guards

Hi I’m finally gonna break down and get some wrist guards because ventually I
will have a bad fall, hasn’t happened yet, knock on wood, and wrist guards will
probably be a good investment in the long run. I’ve heard people praise Triple 8
Anti Gloves. I was wondering why these are liked so much and would like opinions
on other wrist guards. Thank you.

I have the Harbinger gloves. They’re about $30 at unicycle.com. They’re made of
really nice leather, very comfortable, and fit very well. You can’t go wrong
with these.

Re: wrist guards

I have the Anti Gloves and they are nice - very lightweight. But your fingers
are not protected at all. I also have the Harbinger wrist guards from
unicyclesource. They are beefier and have the guard on the palm side instead of
the back of your hand. Overall they give me a better feeling of confidence, but
I haven’t really tested either in a bad fall. They’re both pretty good - you’ll
just have to decide which to get.

Re: wrist guards

I bought some Anti Gloves last week, and I don’t like them. They seem pretty
cheap, and they’re not as comfortable to wear as my Harbingers, which fit
like a glove.

Can someone tell me how the triple eight Hired Hands compare to the
Harbinger 110g?

Re: wrist guards

I have the Triple-8 Hired Hands gloves. They use heavy-duty leather, 3/4
fingers, and splints on both sides of the wrist. I find them very
comfortable–not bad even in the heat–and they offer the most protection.

Re: wrist guards

The Harbingers are good too, but the reason the Anti Gloves are good is that
they don’t have a plastic splint on the palm side; rather they just have a
padded area. This makes them slightly less supportive but much more comfortable.

I’ve been using the Harbinger 110Gs from Unicycle Source. They’re comfortable
and seem sturdy. My only complaint is that they don’t offer full finger
protection, and they interfere with wearing other gloves that would.

I couldn’t find any gloves that’d fit under them, but I finally found some cheap
cotton gloves that would stretch over them for winter riding. My fingers get
tooo cold without something on 'em when it’s below freezing outside.

Has anyone tried the Harbinger WristWraps (230W)? They look like they might fit
over a glove if you wanted additional protection or warmth.

Re: wrist guards

I also meant to mention that I used to have some inexpensive wrist guards (Skate
Attack) which had the splint in the back and I found that after I’d ride my
hands would ache. I finally figured out that the splint was pressing against the
small bones in the back of my hand when I’d pull up on the seat and it was
making me sore.

I stopped using them and eventually switched to the Harbinger half finger
gloves, which have the splint on the palm side and I haven’t had any more
hand pain.

Re: wrist guards

One thing I forgot to mention about the anti gloves: I also took the back splint
out of them and replaced it with a couple of layers of “bleach bottle material”,
ie thin plastic. This way they no longer are like splints but rather like
supports, and are much more comfortable. They also are a bit more convenient
than Harbingers/Hired hands if you want to wear full-fingered riding gloves
underneath.

I used to use Hired Hands and they are really similar to the Harbingers. I tried
them both on in the store and chose Hired Hands because they have a simpler
strapping arrangement.

All in all I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I’ve also been working with Norco/SixSixOne to produce a pair of “Freeriding
Gloves”. They sent me a prototype the other day and these should also be
available in the next couple of months or so. Basically these would be like
regular mountain biking gloves (full finger) with some wrist support.

Just talking to myself here, but I also forgot to mention that Skate Attack has
since changed the design of their wrist guards to incorporate bracing on both
sides. I don’t know if they’d be any less painful or not.
