I’m attempting to get into tumbling, basic gymnastics, etc. One slight difficulty… I’m not able to bend my wrists back past 90 degrees. In fact, its probably more like 80-85 degrees at most. This makes it rather (very) painful to do handstands, etc. I’d LIKE to be able to handstand pushups eventually.
So the million dollar question is, how abnormal is this (what flexibility do most people have) and how can I improve my rotating range.
Well, i have no clue about the average flexibilty. You can definatly look that up online, but i can bend mine 90º maybe like 95º. And i can like constantly crack it. I don’t think thats healthy. Good luck finding answers, ill look stuff up since im not doing anything, if i can find it ill reply.
That sucks, mine don’t get sore, they just crack a real lot. Like over and over. My knees get sore a lot, and my hips have this problem where they like dislocate easy, and they will pop out when i walk. It hurts when i walk. And if I, or anyone, puts there hands on my hips when i walk you can feel it pop. Its crazy.
My wrists go to about 95 degrees (it’s hard to say exactly) which is plenty fine for hand walking. They still get very sore, though, if I do a lot of hand walking, or if I practice sideways wheel walk on the unicycle a lot. I doubt there’s any way to overcome this problem except not to practice either skill too much in one day. I suspect your wrist flexibility might increase a bit if you continue to work on hand stands regularly.
I was in a brave mood. I’d just called work to blag a day off sick. Well I am a little bit poorly…But not quite poorly enough to be unable to go for a coker ride this afternoon.
i used to be a gymnast way way back around the age of 7 and my rists always hurt to when walking around on my hands or anything like that. So I went to physiotherapist and he showd me different rist movments to strengthen and loosen up my rists
The reason for the question was not for a requirement or some such thing, simply a physical limit I have. I can balance a handstand for a decent length of time (15-20 seconds), however it is excruciatingly painful on my right wrist. Once I come down I can barely rotate it for several minutes, and my fingers feel as if they were popped out of joint. My left hand isn’t quite as bad. I assume it’s a wrist flexibility problem, as my left wrist can be bent to 90 degrees with force without pain. My right can be bent to about 80 with force before it starts hurting.
Therefore, it is rather impossible for me to improve their flexibiliy through further handstand trials. It would be akin to learning to stand on one foot on a bed of nails. You may eventually get it, but I dont want to be seeing your foot after!
(and lets avoid the fact that the impaling nails would most likely make it easier. as well, let’s ignore the fact that they may not even impale at that point
Just kidding. When you do sideways wheel walk, you hold the seat with both hands, and put as much weight on the seat as possible, to free up your feet to move the wheel.
