I’m considering putting brakes on my Nightfox. I’m trying to work out the cost but I cannot find the D-Brake adapter. Anyone have any idea where I can buy one?
If you’re in Europe then I have one or maybe even two to sell. (Germany)
Sadly, I live in Pennsylvania.
UDC USA sells a Nightfox lower leg with a disc brake tab, which could be a good alternative if yours doesn’t already have one.
I may be interested in one of your d‘brakes. How much would it cost, including shipment to Switzerland?
When did you get a Nightfox?
Couple of days ago
You are correct. I was not aware of that I recently built out a nightfox with a 32 wheel and was going bananas trying to find my old d brake adapter. Fortunately I found it but it is good to know that the lower legs are available.
I believe these are still in stock. It’s from Korea and I know @MadHatchetAndy purchased one for one of his builds.
@Raven @Wheelou, NIMBUS d.brake, Unicycle Korea, only took 3 days, Korea to the UK amazing service.
Be careful shopping for these boys, there are several fake websites offering these for sale.
Usually they have “municycle” in the web title.
Korea and Sweden have them and are genuine, the others treat with caution.
Nimbus are currently not making these, due to the short supply, of the aluminium used.
On bigger wheels likley you will need to add a small stabalising bar to the frame, I have heard of brake squeal on larger wheels, easy enough to sort. Nimbus added this to later models. But this is not available anywhere, as far as I know.
You will need a 50mm Allen Head M6 bolt, plus a small adjustable bracket and a couple of cable ties and a P-Clip
Yup. It‘s called the Hugo strut. That‘s what mine looks like:
Have a second d‘brake on a different uni (for streets) without the strut and it works well enough.
@Raven @Wheelou if you are thinking about dbrake for larger wheels, I am pretty sure there is a detailed thread, dedicated to the subject, somewhere on this forum. With a few options/solutions to stop vibration and brake squeal. From memory these were mostly 36". Many removed the dbrake and oppted to weld on an IS brake tab instead.
You can get a brakefast ally tab kit, to weld on, with an aligning tool, but you still need a D.brake anyway, to align and set the tab up.
It works fine on smaller wheels like my 20" mini hatchet and 24" oracle, but much less braking forces are applied.
180mm rotor is ideal and what the d.brake best suits. 160mm does not work. 203mm guessing squeal and vibration.
20" hatchet, 2 pot shimano, no squeal or vibration.
24" oracle, 4 pot shimano, no squeal or vibration, but the caluper probabley overkill for the 24"
For a 36" 180mm rotor, 4 pot caliper probabley gonna be your choice. But its allot of force for the dbrake, so you will need the stablilising bar.
Will see. I‘m planning to change my rotors from 180mm to 203mm because of the new rotor for the Schlumpf. I want to be able to switch wheels between my 29ers.
Unfortunately the d’brake isn’t compatible with the Schlumpf*, so I’d have to take the brake off to switch wheels. „Why are you go for the bigger rotor, then?“ you may think. Because taking the brake off is still way easier than changing the brake rotor and the IS-PM adapter.
Have made the step to 203mm on my muni a month or two ago, and am quite happy with it.
*I could of course mill the d‘brake to make room for the hub, but will only do so if I have a spare one - just in case I screw up.
