What unicycle fits me?

Hello i’m new to unicycling and i just got one of those cheap Balance unicycles to learn how to unicycle. Anyway i’m getting into like jumping around, going off road onto trails, and doing tricks. I was wondering which kind of unicycle would fit me best. Iv’e looked into the Torker DX unicycle already and am thinking about getting that one next but came here to get some better advice. THANKS

Uniman8 hi, good to have you on the forum.

I’ll leave the technical advice to those who know more than me, I’m just here to say

That’s one more of us, and one less of them.

I have for myself a Nimbus (the original preceeding the Nimbus 2) that has done nearly 10,000km. I also have a Torker giraffe just for fun. I don’t do much except for commuting. I initially had a much inferior uni and that was fine for learning but it did show it’s weakness, especially the crank/hub. It was not much cheaper than if I had bought the Nimbus in the first place.

If your needs are only to get about, without jumping off street furnishings and walls and not muni and not trials then the Torker CX and Nimbus 2 are appropriate, the Torker being the choice for exceptional value (in Australia). When asked to recommend soemthing for commuting or learning, the Torker is the one I mostly lean towards simply becuae there are no obvious deficiences despite it’s gentle price.

Expensive uni’s are generally that for a reason. They are probably essential for serious hardworking “extreme” (I hate that term) unicycling which I don’t do. If this is your intention then you should look for the extra strength, the specialist tyre, the splined cranks and maybe the lighter frame.

I’m not sure where the Nimbus 2 sits as it is quite a different beast than the one I have. But they are very popular and not overpriced imo.

ok thanks

The new DXs are about on par with the Nimbus IIs (both great mid-range unicycles) the question is really wether you want a trials (19/20") or a MUni (24/26")

A trials unicycle is perfect for hopping on and off stuff and is solid as nails, they will be better than a standard 20" for going off road but still sort of slow. Probably a good choice for your first “serious” unicycle.

A MUni will be faster and roll over obstacles better on the trail but is a bit heavier and therefore harder to learn to hop up stuff with, you won’t have any trouble hopping down though. It also might be tougher to learn tricks with the larger heavier wheel.

May be you can try 24 MUni.
It’s simular like 20- but faster.
