Looks familiar. I like the look and feel of the Discourse™ forums. You can find me with the same name on this one.
The French Unicycling forum, of course!
Wow, I’ve just got myself a whole new unicycling forum to read! Since I only have schoolboy French (we were supposed to find it useful to be able to say ‘Voici le tableau noir’ in our interactions with a neighbouring country - except I was at a British school in Kenya at the time, so not exactly neighbouring there) I nearly didn’t follow your link, but it turns out the browser has translated it all to English for me. Fantastic!
Funnily enough it seems a bit of an intrusive sort of browsing because I feel like I’m cheating!
Browsers might be intrusive, and it might be cheating but you get access to a whole new community.
And I really like the fact that you chose this exact topic, because I was thinking about doing some propaganda on this forum too. And I think that I will do it, after all the cotentin (extreme north of normandy) is really close to england, and we have a ferry in the city, so maybe our fellow neighbours coud join!
Based on the screenshot filename, you use Chrome - which is developed by Google. Is it a surprise that it is intrusive?
I am a member of Bentrider, which is a forum for recumbent cyclists. I have also been known to haunt harmonica forums, but I have never joined one.
To me, forums really have appeal for niche hobbies that I can’t share with anyone in person. I have other, more popular hobbies that I don’t really care to join a forum for because I can talk about them with people I know. For things like unicycling, a forum is really the only way to connect with and share the joy of a hobby with the few people out there that can understand it.
@Amusement_Mark Cool!!! I am a chromatic guy, but I do own a few diatonics. I own a Hohner Meisterklasse, two Seydel Symphonies (12 and 16 holes), a Tombo, a Suzuki SCX-48, and a Suzuki SCT-128. My only nice diatonic is a Suzuki Fabulous in C.
This is the only one I own, and I’m not any good at it. The idea was to play it (on a neck holder) while juggling on a unicycle. Basically, I was seeking an instrument I could play hands-free. It’s a project I should restart. I suddenly feel inspired.
I can talk about chromatic harmonicas all day long. I have several ones that are pretty unique. My Tombo has custom 3D printed covers from Russ Camerer by way of David Kettlewell. Kettlewell actually has a video of him testing it on his channel. My Suzuki SCX has a wood comb and wood covers. It is fun to play around with, because the sound is so different. My 12 hole Seydel Symphony is Orchestra Bebop tuned. It is really fun to play with, but I never got good enough to where I could just swap between it and a regular chromatic without making a ton of mistakes.
It is a super forgiving instrument, and is definitely worth playing. I think a chromatic is more rewarding for a beginner, even though it seems more intimidating, because you can play the whole chromatic scale without bending notes. With a chromatic and the harptabs website, you can play all kinds of music with minimal practice and just have a good time. It is not a hands free instrument though, unfortunately.
I am also a member of Board Game Geek. I love playing Euro games, especially the very weighty strategy games that don’t involve luck. Any other Splotter Spellen fans in the house?
Shhhh - or at least don’t tell @ruari, because I told him I was switching to Vivaldi (but clearly it isn’t my phone’s default browser yet).
I now see it will also does automatic translation for me - would that be via Google servers too I wonder?
We use a self hosted Lingvanex implementation.
That reminds me of my unicycle experience after switching from high gear to low gear on my g29 (not yet trying to shift while riding). I’m adapting way quicker to the new situation now than when I started schlumpfing.
To go fully on-topic again, I used to follow several photography forums. Since I turned from digital (back) to film photography, the desire to read about the latest and greatest has pretty much ceased, and I have more time to spend here .
(feels a bit strange to bring a thread back on-topic. I’m apparently more used to go the other way round…)
I’m a frequent user (and moderator) of this one, same pseudo:
And yes, you’ll recognize the Discourse interface. And special kudos to our international @Canapin who spent hours helping convert what was a dying 20 years old phpBB forum into a resurrected popular forum. Rings a bell to some users here?
I am also on a “would be writers” forum. I have been writing novels for 50 years, wrote theater, and two books but still looking for an editor… it means that, though I am good at imagining lot of things (most of my scenarios are pretty unusual), I still have to learn to write
Yes, that’s the Problem what we have. Nobody want to write or read long papers. They just want pictures.
I’m a user of the german Seat Leon Forum since this is the car I drive and I can get some handy tipps there. And I used to be a unser and later also moderator of bloodylove.de, a german gothic forum of the early 2000s. It did not use an existing forum software, but was all self programmed by the admin.
