just today the hard plastic bit protecting the front of my unicycle seat came
off. well, i’ve used some binding tape to stick it back on, but i’m a little
surprised because i havent had my unicycle for long – about a month, with only
once-weekly practice sessions. besides, it’s a Viscount, which i’ve heard is a
pretty good brand of unicycle seat…(is it?)
looking at the thing it seems actually rather poorly designed: the plastic thing
is held to the seat by a pair of screws which go into the foam of the seat and
nothing else. it can’t possibly last very long…
i dunno whether any of you feel the same way, or have any other advice the next
time i go looking for a unicycle (should i get the ones without the hard
plastic)…?
Wow! a viscount seat broke? that’s never happened before!!! Just kidding.
They’re know for that. A while ago there was a thread where everyone listed what
they did to fix it. Here’s what has worked really well for me… Take a screw out
of the seat and take it to your local hardware store. Ask for the next size
larger screw. Replace all 4 with the oversize screws and I think you’ll be
pleased. Enjoy! Brian http://how.to/unicycle

You can’t go far wrong with a Miyata seat ($45 att Unicycle Source). If THAT
breaks, you can even get a carbon fiber frame for it at the same place. The
Semcycle air seat at $50 is okay, but lacks a front handle.
For sheer comfort, you can even take off the Miyata cover, cut out the middle of
the foam, and insert a small tire tube (12" or 10"). Drill a hole in the seat
bottom to allow the tube valve stem to stick through for easy pressure
adjustment. Helps preserve the family treasures…
