For the Veloway track in Austin, Texas, I was “just curious” if anybody
has ever attemptted the ride up the steep hill at Veloway on their
unicycle successfully. If you have been there, you KNOW exactly which
steep hill I am reffering to. I have a Coker and Semcycle XLW 24 on
the way to my house from unicycle.com.
Well, maybe I won’t receive the Coker so soon after all. Looks like they
will be out of stock until February 25. Demand has outstripped supply.
Got my hopes up when it used to say Out of Stock until January. Now its
February and I am crying.
Maybe we can start a support group called:
alt.group.support.out-of-stock.cokers
If an actual group will congregate together from this newsgroup, I’ll buy
teddy bears from Toys R Us and share them with the group so Cokerless
folks can hug something soft. LOL (bad joke, I know)

Hey Unicycle Dude, I used to ride the Veloway all the time on my Coker and
I love that hill. I wish that the Veloway had more hills instead of just
that one. I ride through town daily getting ready for my distance ride in
april. When you get your Coker you should come ride with me. Later, gator.

p.s. Hills. The bigger the better.
Cool. Thanks for the invitation. I was hoping somebody could show me the
basic learning ropes about riding the Coker, especially on the Veloway
track. To be honest, I thought a unicyclist was going to respond and say,
“It can’t be done because it’s too steep”. Well, that gives me something
to look forward to knowing that it can be done.
FWIW: In the meantime, you might want to check out this comprehensive
and ever-growing hiking web site. www.austinexplorer.com/hiking/ It
focuses on our local region where hiking trails exist, but it does list
bike trails, too. This kudos web site shows a large listing of hiking
trails (mainly geared for hikers) and provides a difficulty rating for
walking hikers. With the 24 park listings, I’m sure there’s enough cozy
spots for any unicycle rider to roam devilishly. evil laughter (I’m
just 90.32% kidding)
I think my Semcycle XLW 24-inch unicycle will arrive this Thursday
afternoon. There are some interesting and fun dirt trails in Austin where
mountain bicycle riders roam, such as Bull Creek, Mary Moore Searight park
or something similar, which I’ve ridden on with my mountain bicycle. Yeah,
I know Searight park is not a challenge for the mountain bike rider, but
it might be a good and fun challenge for the unicycle rider.
I can’t wait for unicycle.com to ship my Coker. Okay, I’ll let you know
when it ships to my house. I might not receive it until late February or
early March. Also, I can be contacted at hotmail. My user id is
“webaviancb” I think I saw you on the roster list of www.unicycling.org
roster, so I guess I can communicate that way to you, also. I recently
joined their list for the first time. I live in Buda, Texas, but I don’t
mind driving to Austin.

For an example of what may be near the limits of how steep you can roll
uphill on a unicycle, check out my pictures from the Slickrock Trail in
Moab last April. Go to the link below and click on “Moab MUni Fest (Part
II) April 2001”

As usual, steepness is hard to convey in two-dimensional pictures, but
picture #9 is effective.

Good pictures, for sure. I see that Brett, on photo #9, was riding up a
steep trail. Thanks for sharing the link.
It was a novel to see white stiped lines in the desert. I never knew that
was ever done. I suppose that will help orientate newbie hiker from
becoming lost and eventually eaten by vultures.

Brett was showing us how to ride up stuff that was steeper than we’d ever
attempted. This was not on an actual trail, but in an area of the
practice loop.

Those pesky vultures. Since the Slickrock area is mostly pure rock, those
white lines are the trail. Though now it might be possible to do
without them due to the black trail from all the tires that have ridden
along it…
