Unizaba kicks butt on Banff North America Tour

Hi,

Just though I’d share some cool news I just got from a coordinator at the Banff Mountain Film
Festival.

Last year Skilletto was #2 in popularity on the Banff Mountain Film Festival North American tour,
in terms of number of screenings. And this year…

Unizaba is the #1 most popular film on the 2002 tour, beating out all other films including
several with budgets in excess of 1 million dollars, to screen at over 145 theatres in North
America. This doesn’t include the World tour, for which I have no statistics.

-Kris.

More positive exposure. Congratulations, Kris. And thanks for doing so much to promote this sport.

Making movies can be really expensive even if you are in the “low budget” scale of independent
films.

I don’t mind sharing the budgets:
Skilletto probably cost about $5000 USD to make including everything, but this was part of the
budget for a larger bike movie (New World Disorder)

Unizaba probably cost around $10,000 USD, again as part of a larger bike movie budget (Fat Tire
Fury)

Into the Thunder Dragon will cost about $90,000 USD, paid for by a production company called
Outside Television and sold to the Outdoor Life Network. That may seem like a heck of a lot, but
when you do the math and actually make a proper budget, it is only just barely enough for a very
small team, without even paying much in terms of salaries.

That said, you can see why it’s hard to make a movie intended primarily for a unicycling audience,
and also how amazing an achievement it was by Dan Heaton to make Universe on basically zero
budget.
