No, I made it clear at the outset that I wasn’t going to do that!

It was an interesting day, though. This was the first time I’ve ever done
a truly big-budget shoot. We drove up the approach road (you typically
ride up a gated gravel road to get to this trail) in a long convoy of
trucks, a food stand, large generator truck, and a crew of about 35
assistants, camera operators, producers and directors. They carried large
searchlights down into the forest and set them up in various directions.
They also had large (4m diameter) helium balloons that they let up into
the forest canopy and shone lights at to brighten the forest (it was dark
and pouring rain most of the day), and a few smoke generators to make the
forest “misty”. For the cameras, they set up several short tracks (like
railroad tracks) so that the cameraman could slide along this and get a
moving camera angle.

Basically, I rode the ridiculator over and over all day long in the
pouring rain, dismounting just before the big drop at the end and walking
back up the structure. The pressure to perform was very high considering
all the money they spent to get this shot, but in some ways it reduced the
intimidation normally associated with riding a scary ladderbridge like the
ridiculator.

At the end of the day they brought in a stretch limosine and took some fun
shots where I climbed into the back of the limo while soaking wet and
covered in mud (the limo had white leather seats). They just had me goof
off a bit and play some air guitar with my unicycle.
