I make a unicycle podcast. I’ve been recording episodes for quite some time (6 years!). They started off as group discussions, mainly with urban riders, and it’s morphed into a more organised show with 1-1 interviews with different riders.
I have just spoken to August Agerskov, a Danish freestyle rider. You can listen to that episode below.
I would really like to make episodes more regularly and am open to suggestions for guests. Who would you like to hear on the podcast?
I’ve been looking through my back catalogue and I’ve had some really good guests in the past. Here are some of my favourite episodes.
Roger Davies (Owner of UDC UK)
Jana Tenambergen (German distance rider)
Phil Sanders (US Street rider - Interviewed during the UNICON 20 afterparty)
Jakob Flansberry (Canadian Muni rider and unicycle framebuilder)
Mark Fabian (Trials world champion)
I have also had loads of other guests, including Ed Pratt, Kirsten Goldstein, Jack Sebben, Rebekka Wiedener, Matt Sindelair and Val Von Uslar. If you’re interested in any of those, feel free to have a listen through the back catalogue.
All episodes should be on most podcast platforms, so search for #unicyclelife podcast and enjoy!
Are you interested in exploring the other unicycling universes and sharing them with the English‑speaking world?
Lisa Hanny. She is arguably the top track rider in the world now. She wins track with a smile, posting times sufficient to place on the men’s podium. She also combines this with top freestyle performances in a highly competitive German freestyle community. I have never talked to her, but I bet she might be an interesting guest to talk to.
Germans and Swiss have a large unicycle hockey ecosystem with dozens of clubs, with some sort of selection system, competitions, and so on. Who are they? How does it work? How do they do it? How do they deal with generational transitions and raising young players? What do we know about all this? I do not even know the names to suggest to talk to, but I am sure they do exist.
Unicycle basketball is another universe to talk about. If you deep dive into it, you will find interesting historical and present success stories and challenges. Kaseem from KCT is worth talking to about unicycling and unicycle basketball in entertainment. Barreto, Charlie, and Candido Santiago have stories about the Puerto Rico All‑Stars team. Lance Thornton is an interesting person to talk about the US scene — he successfully builds a new competitive team every time he flies to a Unicon, and he always returns with a medal.
Cyril Ravet is behind Anim’a Fond. I had the privilege of speaking with him for about an hour. He is very special to the unicycling community (not only the francophone one — he co‑organized the basketball tournament in Bemidji). He does have some great stories to tell if you manage to get him to talk. I was impressed. And I heard he has a secret in his backyard.
PG from Woom, Thomas from Cycl’as: they are key members of amazingly successful projects. How do they do it? Why? What does the near future look like? These projects seem to struggle with generational transitions — how are they handling that? Is it working? What do they think about monobasket and inclusivity — are they focusing on French‑speaking development, or thinking globally? How do they compare themselves with the German‑speaking unicycle hockey scene, if at all?
Maybe someone from the Troub unicycle basketball team? I know Marion, Gaby, and Valentin speak very good English, and they are the team to beat at the next Unicon.
After I replied to you, I checked Lisa’s IG and was shocked to learn about her injury. Although I am upset and heartbroken, I think she is one of the best people to talk to about unicycling and about work–life balance now.
