Unicycle featuring ?

I’m trying to list all the movies/TV serials/animes where it appears an
unicycle. Could you help me if you know some? I began the list which will be
published on my site at http://Zeni.swurl.net. For the moment, the list is very
very short :

  1. The Simpson
  2. Tonari no Yamada kun … to be continued. Thank you.

Re: Unicycle featuring ?

The PBS show “Big Comfy Couch” has a unicyclist every show (Major Bedhead)! and
this family movie-type video called “Clowning Around” - really cheesy but lots
of good circus props, including unis, kangaroo unis, giraffes, rola bolas,
stilts, and lots of juggling as well.

RE: Unicycle featuring ?

There’s a PBS show called “Zoom” for kids, and it had an episode with a feature
story on a kid who unis around.

And there was the Bizarro Seinfeld episode, which had a Unicycle hanging in the
apartment of the Bizarro Jerry (where Jerry had, depending on season, either a
Klein or a Cannondale MTB).

And a Guinness World Records show with the smallest unicycle.

That’s all I can think of offhand. Peter

In the new movie Toy Story 2, in Al’s Toy Barn, as Buzz is chasing after his
pals, he leaps into the air and grabs hold of a handle mounted a strong piece of
string, and on top of the handle is a little unicycle riding monkey! Not shown
for long, but it’s there!

not only that, but you can actually buy the Toy Story 2 unicycling monkey in toy
stores. I did, before the movie even came out. It comes with a length of string,
and a Buzz Lightyear action figure (with working lights) to zoom along the
length of the string with the monkey’s assistance.

Now you can reenact your favorite three seconds of the movie in your own home!

I got one of these at Toys R Us ($16.00, ouch!). It’s a nice one. There was also
a Curious George version of the ‘unicyclist on wire’ toy that you always see for
sale on eBay. I have seen the ‘billy balancer’ version (as seen in The Unicycle
Book by Jack Wiley), the Curious George version, and a bear version.

This one is intended for store display only. I’ve seen it before at other FAO
stores and it was never for sale. The girl at the Sacramento store actually said
it was too dangerous, because the constant wear of the cyclist on the wire
causes it to break regularly, and she said the weight under the cycle actually
cracked the tile in the floor beneath it. If this were true, it would be a
safety hazard to have it up there. But those “industrial strength” unicycle toys
are not built for the consumer market.

This one I have not seen.

Re: Unicycle featuring ?

I got 2 christmas ornaments with monkeys riding unicycles…one of them was
juggling some pins and one was carrying a balancing bar. The were inexpensive
from Wal-Mart.

“The Big Store” (Marx Brothers movie - Groucho rides a bike through the store,
crashes into a wall, the bike breaks and he comes away on a unicycle that he
continues to ride)

“Welcome Back Cotter” (US TV program - kid rides a unicycle down the street
during the opening or closing credits)

It will never make it to the states, much less to the rest of the world, but my
daughter, Margarita Ruiz, was a regular a few years ago in a children’s TV show
here in Puerto Rico.

Her character’s name was Unica (Unique in English) and she always rode,
never walked.

I was wondering about the sudden appearance of monkeys on unicycles this year.
One of the Scouts in my Scout troop told me he was given a Christmas tree
ornament with Curioug George (a monkey in a children’s book series) on a
unicycle carrying a stack of Christmas gifts. In the FAO Schwartz toy store in
Sacramento there is a display with a Curious George doll sitting on a unicycle
that is balanced on a wire by a weight attached to the unicycle and hanging
directly below the wheel. (Not unlike the description of the unicycle in the
science museum discussed here a few weeks ago) The wheel has a grove in it (like
a rim without a tire) to keep the wheel on the wire wire. One end of the wire is
bolted to a wall on one side of the store. The other end of the wire is attached
to the end of a clock hand on the wall on the other side of the store. As the
clock hand goes around (about twice the speed of a second hand) the wire is
raised and lowered causing Curious George to unicycle back and forth across the
store. The clerk said they weren’t selling any toys that were like the display
or anything else that featured unicycling for that matter.

I was given a Hallmark Christmas ornament this year that has a clown (with
Crayola printed on the front of the clown suit) sitting an a unicycle and
juggling 3 balls.

Any other Unicycling stuff around this year.

All the best,
