So in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1w62cM1Bfw&t=190s by Mr. Brill, that is about 180 unispins when he does the static unispin, he spins it towards his front then when he starts talking about the outspin he starts spinning it away from his front foot. do I need to learn how to do the unispin in the other direction, or am I fine just spinning it toward my front? Also he says it helps with “flips” later what does he mean by that? Also I hold the seat with my right hand and have my right foot in front so to do the outspin I would have to start holding the seat with my left when doing the outspin.
Honestly, his techniques look a bit awkward to me, especially as a tutorial vid. My default 1-spins are always towards my front foot, not matter which direction the seat is facing or how I plan to land, seat in or SIF. I also always use my dominant hand (the one I grab the handle with) in the front. I’d say just start off by doing what feels comfortable for you, once you have the trick down in one direction, then you can try spinning the other way.
What he means by flips is for tricks that combine a unispin and a crankflip, such as varial flips and tre-flips. For a crankflip you flick the front pedal with your front foot and allow the wheel to spin a full revolution in the air before catching it and riding a way, the unicycle equivalent of a kickflip on a skateboard. For those tricks, spinning the uni away from your front foot can be helpful in getting the crankflip to work better. But if you’re just working on the unispin, again, start with what feels most comfortable and add variations later on.
Ok, thanks!
