UNICON X

Is there anyone who knows any thing about UNICON?

Is it going to be, and then where? The information on their homepage is very
old, and they do not reply when you write to them.

I wrote a letter to the Danish embassy in Beijing asking if they could find me
any information. They told me that is was not certain if it was going to be in
Beijing or in Tokyo. That was totally new for me!

Sure. It will be in Beijing from august 1 to August 9, 2000.

John Foss gave you some Home Pages that are up to date. But many things are
happening now. I suggest that you bookmark them now and check them in a couple
of weeks. There should be much more information and pictures. But do keep in
check. UNICON X looms like the best UNICON X.

And to the IUF. Maybe they should change the Danish ambassador. For future
questions, please ask me at alberto@taino.net or post it here, depending on how
private you believe the questions are. In either case, they will be answered.

Sort of. The CUA web site has links to the most up-to-date information available
on the Web: http://www.sportstravel.com.cn/uniconx/index.htm

If you can’t read this page, there is some information on the IUF web site:
http://www.unicycling.org/iuf/

Also Jack Halpern has a bunch of pictures and information on his site, but this
is older information: http://www.kanji.org/jack/unicycle/uniconx/uniconx.htm

No registration forms yet. Dates are still August 2-9. Next week, IUF President
Alberto Ruiz, Vice President Jack Halpern, and “IUF Special Attaché” Andy Cotter
will be in China to meet with the organizers and help them work out lots of
details. They will make a big announcement when they get back.

I don’t advise getting locked into any travel reservations yet, until more
information comes out. Also, the organizers will probably be offering discount
airfares, though as of yet there have been no details.

Communication has indeed been an issue, and that’s one of the reasons for the
group to visit China. Also because there are so many things to know and do to
prepare a UNICON.

Don’t fear, this is old information. For a while we were uncertain about the
CUA’s ability to host UNICON X, and there was talk of finding a different host.
Japan is where we’re hoping to have another UNICON soon. But I wonder how the
Danish embassy got this information?

In about two weeks we should be hearing from the three intrepid IUF travelers.
Let’s wish them a safe and fun trip!

Ha! I almost didn’t notice that! Come to think of it, we may want to
separate ourselves, just to avoid undue attention…

And of course there will be a proper honeymoon first:

I concur. People who have never been to one are taking this special chance to
visit China along with a UNICON. Think about it, people!

You will have competition for this honor…

AR: Thanks for your interest. It is good to know that Denmark will participate
in UNICON X.

These pages are quite up to date. I suggest that you bookmark them and check
them often. There will be more information and pictures in the near future.

JF: I don’t advise getting locked into any travel reservations yet, until more

airfares, though as of yet there have been no details.

AR: Do separate the dates, all signals are go. Probably from a couple of days
before and a couple of days later. But wait for their offer as they are related
to a Chinese government owned travel agency and might come with some
interesting offers.

JF: Communication has indeed been an issue, and that’s one of the reasons for
the group to visit China. Also because there are so many things to know and do
to prepare a UNICON.

AR: Actually, they have been pretty good in communications since November. But
there is a language barrier. You are probably better communicating thru me or
Andy Cotter. We should be able to anser must of your questions.
