Xeasa,
(Is that pronounced as in the Roman warleader, and the popular salad option?)
Unicycle wheels normally use standard bicycle rims, tubes and tyres. The market isn’t big enough to support special unicycle-only wheels.
So, look on the side of the tyre and you will see something that is obviously a size. It might be metric or in inches, but it will say something like “20 x 2.25”. 20 is of course the size of the wheel, and the 2.25 is the section width and depth) of the tyre.
On the whole, a fat tyre is more comfortable and deals with bumps better. A skinny tyre is sometimes more manoeuvreable.
It would make sense to buy a tyre of the same thickness as the one fitted originally, unless you have a reason to change it. However, most wheels will take a variety of sizes. (I’ve just moved down from a 35 mm tyre to a 28 mm tyre on my 28, but many people put a 2 inch or bigger tyre (50mm ) on the same rim.
However, if it’s on a giraffe, have you tried simply moving the tyre round a bit? Let the air out, remove the tyre, slide it round a quarter turn and put it all back together. On some giraffes, the two cogs (top and bottom) have the same number of teeth, and this means you get two patches of wear on the tyre as it scrubs during turns. (you normally turn on the downstroke of the pedal.)
On other giraffes, the cogs are one tooth different, so that the tyre is constantly changing position, relative to the pedals.
No it’s pronounced (ze-a-za)
Thanks for the tire help:)
Re: uni tire
Be warned that at least some old Schwinns used fractional sized tires
- mine was something like 24 x 1 3/4. These tires are NOT
interchangeable with standard fractional sized tires (e.g. 24 1.75).
