Uni-thon

The Panther Pride Unicycle Team hosted it’s second Uni-thon today. 47 riders
took part in this 1 1/2 hour event. Everyone collected pledges ahead of time
and today ride “like the wind” inside our gym. The least amount of laps was 35
and the most was almost 250. 25 laps equals 1 mile. Everyone had fun from the
riders, to the lap markers. The best thing about this fund raiser is it takes
about 4 hours and makes alot of money. Last year we made over $4,000.

I hope that wasn’t Megan. That would really cost me. I told her I wanted those cranks good and loose before she started.

Re: Uni-thon

Zach Vaughn was the unoffical winner with the most laps. I forgot to mention,
everyone was riding 20 inch, with an expection of one Dad on a 24 who was
riding just for fun. I never heard how many laps he did. Our riders were
kindergarten to 50+.

That’s a good effort getting 47 riders to attend. What’s The Panther Pride Unicycle Team? How did you guys form? Our weekly ride has 6 regular members…it’s still lots of fun and they range in age from 7 to about 45.

Andrew,

The Panther Pride Demo Team (PPDT) is one of the largest and most active unicycling clubs in the United States.

The PPDT is an after-school program of Snoqualmie Valley (Washington, USA) School District 410’s North Bend Elementary School. North Bend is a small community located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, about 40 miles east of the Seattle waterfront. PPDT Coach Alan Tepper usually has over 100 kids participating in the program at any given time. Alan, who is the pyysical education teacher at the school, started the program almost 20 years ago.

The PPDT hosted the Unicycling Society of America’s 1999 National Unicycling Convention; the 2002 North American Unicycling Conventions and Championships; and, UNICON 11.

Those are objective facts. Now for a subjective addition: the Panther
Pride Demo Team are also, together with TCUC, the groups with the most
incredibly talented riders. I’ve never met anyone from either group in
person, but I’ve watched in awe the video footage that has been made
available on the www. Hats off to PPDT! (And TCUC equally.)

As an aside: I think that Alan Tepper (PPDT coach) can’t ride a
unicycle himself or otherwise just has very basic riding skills. He
spends all his time coaching and he seems to be VERY good at that!
