Uni @ age 5 (mastered) many thanks to Drummonds

Well… he did it on day 12.

Yesterday my son, the self proclaimed ‘King Uni-Man’ rode most of the day. I would guess he had 5 or more hours in the saddle bringing his total to about 16 hours. He can ride until he gets too tired to keep rolling!

He thanked me for buying him a Unicycle about 10 times. He also kept saying thank you for our video tape, ‘Introduction to Unicycling’ which he watched many times. He was influenced quite a bit by the Drummonds young son who is highlighted in the video. So I would like to personally thank the Drummonds and unicycle.com for making such a wonderful introduction video. I don’t know who came up with the ‘deck rail’ system which is used on the video, but my family is a testimonial that it works well for all ages- 5, 11 and 35! On behalf of the Neumann family, thank you.

P.S.

Okay guys, I’m still looking for ideas on the ‘Ultimate Saddle’ prototype.

Christopher (rhysling) I’ve added that EMP generator you mentioned! Now I need ideas on a super cool gas for the air saddle. Any takers?

Jason,

Thanks for your kind words. You have the 2nd-generation ‘Introduction’
video. Our three sons, ages 14, 10 and 7, are in the video. Just
wondered which one you’re referring to. Casey, our oldest, is the one
jumping over a stack 2x4s.

The deck railing method has worked for many of us. If a railing had
been available to me as a kid, I would have used it. Instead, I held
onto the side of my mother’s 1964 Buick (while parked in the garage!).
I’d start on the fenders, then try to make my way toward the big chrome
door handles.

John Foss developed an outline for the Intro video and supplied footage
of the 2000 California MUni weekend; Dustin Kelm made the outline his
own and personalized the training. We were fortunate that Dustin Kelm
was in town and available. Our neighbor Jeffery thought it was very
cool to learn from a freestyle world champion.

Best regards,

John Drummond

Hello John,

Our son was inspired by your ‘youngest’ boy on the little red Unicycle
featured during the ‘Uh-Oh… is that thing hard to ride’ segment. We
bought the 16" red United for our son since he liked your boy’s so much.
He is also very impressed with Casey’s one foot riding. It’s truly
amazing, at age 5 he’s learning very fast. If he could freemount, he
could easily pass a level one skills test today- after only two weeks of
riding. I’m home for lunch at the moment and he’s outside trying to
freemount. He wants to catch up with his older sister. It almost makes
me wish I were 5 again.

I imagine that was a pretty good distance, back when cars were sizable
and made of materials other than tin and plastic. I don’t know what
we would have used without the recommendation of the deck railing
system. Cars, lamp posts etc…

The video was very well done and extremely useful. My family is having
endless fun and are planning on attending next years National Unicycle
Convention. We were wondering if Jeffrey still rides?

Thank you again. You have created loyal customers and an inspired a
growing family of unicyclists- my wife is next. After that who knows,
maybe we can teach the family dog.

Sincerely,

The Neumann Family
