UK Unicyclists?

Are there any of you in the UK. In particular the North of England… I
just got a Unicycle for my 26th birthday, something I’ve wanted to do for
a long time. It would be nice to have a mentor / club / friends to cycle
with and learn from.

Thanks,

Tony Kenny Cumbria, England, UK

I’m sure there are loads of us in the UK. I got my unicycle as a Christmas
present from my twin sister last year; luckily I didn’t have to look far
for someone to practice with as my next-door neighbour can ride so we
practice together sometimes; he doesn’t have his own unicycle so he’s glad
to borrow mine, but he does have a mountain board which I had a go on the
other day (big laugh).

I’m from Wiltshire myself, but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone nearer
you replies soon.

Cheers,

Jim.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that there is a group on Yahoo at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_unicyclists ; it is for discussion of
formation of a UK-wide unicyling organisation, but if you lurk there for a
bit you’ll no doubt meet plenty of other UK unicyclists.

Cheers,

Jim.

Welcome to the world of unicyclists…

Yes there are a lot of us in the UK and a few in the Lakes as well. The
nearest club to you that I know of is Lancaster University that meets on
Tuesdays during term time. Check Jesters out in Ambleside if you near
there, Jack might know of local unicyclists, in fact he is striving to
improve himself.

But before then come to Mostyn in North Wales (just beyond Chester) on
31st August, 1 & 2nd September. It is a unicycle convention with about 100
attendees, from absolute learner to reasonably good.

Roger,

You may just see me at Mostyn then  I’m keen to get going. So far I can
stay on for about 4 seconds… I want to be able to go carolling at Xmas
on my Uni whilst playing the trunpet.

Ta,

Tony

Sound fun! I was only thinking today that it would be neat to be able to
play my ukulele while riding my unicycle. Unfortunately I need to learn
how to ride my unicycle and learn how to play my ukulele so it may be
Christmas 2020 by the time I can do both together

Cheers, Jim.

I just managed about 10 feet of pedalling… albeit downhill so I didnt
have a lot of choice… I can manage about 6 foot on the flat… and boy
do my legs hurt! This is quite a workout isnt it!?

Jim, will you be at Mostyn? Will you be selling your wares?

I don’t practice for all that long so the only hurting I experience is
bruised ankles. I think I’ve learned how to fall off now though.

Errm, I’ve heard of Mostyn vaguely, but I assume it’s over the pond in
the US of A so, no I don’t think I will (I spent all my money flying to
NY for a wedding recently). As for selling my wares I don’t have any
wares to sell.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jim,

Mostyn is been the British Unicycle Convention for the last 3 years… It
is located in North Wales about 20miles west of Chester.

The event is a relaxed broad event with activities for the absolute
beginner up to the expert. There are programmed events like unicycle
hockey and Muni or just free space available in what is circus school’s
hall. There will be workshops on for beginners or more advanced riders…
or you could try your hand at one of the juggling workshops… or
acro… or trapeze.

For more information have a look here:

Hi,
Are you still riding/have you tried muni?

Whether or not you are into muni, if you still ride you might like to know there are a few of us in Cumbria now. Email back for the details of the club.

Simon Rolph
