Trouble about rim from mad4one

hello everyone !

Are there people here who ride a 27.5 Mad4One rim for muni and also have the problem that the tire sometimes comes off the rim during intensive riding, like some drops, off-camber landings and rough riding?

I sometimes have this problem, which has caused me to lose confidence on technical descents because I’ve fallen because of it.

I thought there was something wrong with the tire itself, and I also played around with the tire pressure to see if it still happened, nothing was helping.

Now, I also have a Qu-Ax 27.5 unicycle, and I mounted the wheel to my Mad4One frame with the Duro Miner 3.25 tire , and it immediately gave the familiar pop when mounting a tire while inflating it. While I never got that pop with the Mad4One rim.

So after two weekends riding the Qu-Ax rim holds the tire much better, I rode with the same intensity and it didn’t come off the rim.

Furthermore, I don’t know anything about rims so I have no idea what’s going on with the one from mad4one, but I certainly won’t be using this rim anymore.

anyone here have an explanation for this?

Bye

Hey,
I have not had the same issue when I was riding my M4O rim, but I noticed the tire were really easy to install on it. Too easy for being completely confident with it not popping off. As I have used this rim only for freewheel, I hadn’t had the chance to go for big drops… But it may have popped, then.

Another issue might be that the tire and the rim widths don’t match, which would lead to the rim not maintaining the tire as much as it should. I have had this issue on a rim a bit too narrow for a tire (32mm inside rim, 3" tire).

@maxence

On the website frome m4one it says that the rim has outer width off 46mm and inside 38.8 and by Qu-Ax 45mm, inside 38.6mm. Not much difference? What i must say is that these hooks feels softer( rounder) on the M4O rim. Were the beads from tire needs to be. On the Qu-Ax there is more hook by the feel of it

I hope I typed it somewhat understandably. My English isn’t my native language. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Another difference between both rims may be the height of the walls. Taller walls may better retain the tires

No worries! We’re a lot non-native English speakers in here and we almost always understand each other

I have no trouble with my Mad4-1 rim, but I don’t change the tire often and have a different tire (Specialized Chunder on my freewheel and also no big drops). My wife has the Miner on a 27.5 Mad4-1 rim and it works fine too but is quite new.

Although the rim might have a different type of hooks or whatever the sides are called from the Quax, I doubt that the diameter is off. I have had this problem before and it was always the tire bead that was too large.

Although there are often certain tire/rim combinations that work better than others. I would write Marco directly and ask him.

The 50mm KH rim is intentionally tight just to keep the tire on the rim when under heavy side loads. The M41 rim is probably not very tight and furthermore may lack a bead lip on the bead shelf which helps secure the bead, keeping it from moving inwards under side loads (which can result in the bead coming off the rim hemorrhaging the tube or burping a lot of air w/ a tubeless system
