Triple 8 Antiglove vs Harbingers?

Which do you think is better for unicycling: Harbingers or Triple 8
Antigloves?

And is there anywhere in Canada that these type of wrist guards can be purchased?

thanks,
Erin

They are both available here: http://store.yahoo.com/1800wwsports/glovandwrisp.html

Has anybody tried the gel handsliders? I suppose they probably wouldn’t prevent breaking your wrist. They appear to only cover the palm of the hand.

Nikki

I wouldn’t suggest buying anything from that site, though. The shipping charges are outrageous!http://store.yahoo.com/1800wwsports/info.html

Nikki

Ok, never mind the comparisons, I will settle for just knowing if the Harbinger wrist guards can be purchased anywhere in Canada

thanks,
Erin

I have a pair I use for rollerblading - they do a good job of preventing
bloody cuts on the palm of my hand and they aren’t as uncomfortable as
‘normal’ rollerblading wrist guards.

Alex, is it the Harbingers you have, then?

Erin

Be warned: that the Harbingers have a dye (die?) problem- they aren’t properly set and will leach into your skin… I’ve intensively washed mine over 20 times… and still the black stain floods out of the pig skin leather.

That said, they are the best piece of cycling equipment I own. I like my wrists- even if they are stained black.

Anybody know of an equaly protective synthetic alternative?

My wife and my niece swear by the Triple 8 Antigloves. These gloves only have a splint in the back, but have stout padding in the front. They find them more comfortable than the Harbingers.

I usually use the Triple 8 Hired Hands, but found that the Harbingers worked well this winter over heavy mittens–unicycling on the lake.

Personally, I’m clumsy enough to want splints on both sides of my wrist, so I’d go for the Harbingers. Their splints don’t come down so far on the palm as to interfere with using a handle.

I’ve seen the Harbingers for sale at Sport Chek but that was last summer and I haven’t seen them since. Maybe try a high end inline skate store…

Chris,
Use (black)sweat bands on your wrists under the Harbingers.
That worked for me…

Are the Harbringer protective gloves as hot as they look? Do users get heat rashes or anything on their wrists in summer? Does anyone find that the warmth factor keeps them from wearing their gloves as frequently as they could? I am in the market for a new set of wrist guards and I like what I have read about the Harbringers, but I am concerned that the wrist strapping might make the them crazy hot.

What do you think?

I wear Harbingers all the time, often with thin leather gloves under them. When I take them off, they are always soaked with sweat, but I never, ever think about them being hot while I have them on, even in 100+ degree temps. I think they give excellent protection and wouldn’t ride without them. Mine are a little over a year old, are used about 6-8 hours a week, and are just now starting to come unstitched in a few places. I’m sure they will last another 6 months at least.

No, I have the sliders.

What type of Harbingers are you talking about rhysling? The Harbinger
street wrist guards that I recently posted about in the Review forum
don’t stain me even while I sweat in them on every ride.

Again I’m not sure what type of Harbingers is discussed in this
thread. The Harbinger ‘street’ wrist guards are somewhat hot in
summer, but not terribly so. In that regard I have a more severe heat
issue with the 661 knee/shin protectors and even the ventilated cycle
helmet.

Klaas, I appreciated your review of the Harbingers in the “Product Review” section and I believe the wrist guards you have are the one’s we are discussing, generally, most of the time, I think  . How’s that for being sure?!

Anyways, the ones I am thinking of getting are the one’s sold on uni.com (seeing as there doesn’t seem to be anywhere on line of off line that sells them in Canada right now :frowning: ). And I think the uni.com Harbingers are the street version that you reviewed, right?

Erin

If they’re only lasting about 18 months, I think I’ll stick with bog standard rollerblade guards, they last me a bit over a year of riding about 12 or so hours weekly and cost less than half as much. If only someone made wristguards with decent stitching and stuff.

What a great link Byron! Now I can hardly wait to get my Harbingers so that I will know my cosmic ‘guard glove stain sign’!

That’s right. I must admit though that I have no idea where I picked
up that ‘street’ name. I bought them from unicycle.uk.com (in the UK)
and they now appear on the site as Harbinger Extreme Gloves. My
invoice says “Harbinger Extreem Gloves 110G”. Nowhere a street.
