I’d like to buy a trials uni, but I need saddle help. I’ve heard that the impact naomi is good, but I haven’t seen any specs on it. What type of KH saddle is the best for trials? Please give me your 2 cents worth so I know a little more about my choices.
I LOVE the kh slim for trials, but you have to use a kh street cover when it wears out. id say get the slim or naomi
Bump
I expected to get a little more feedback on this.
I’ve been using the KH Street saddle with good results. It’s an easy saddle to grab onto for SIF hopping and it still has enough padding to ride distance on.
It seems as though there aren’t many trials riders on this forum, trials posts tend to reach the bottom quickly, if you want faster feedback on it join the Facebook chat group, that’s where the trials riders hang out. With my experience from trying homemade seats the thinner ones are much more maneuverable, and better for quick movements since there is no friction or drag on your thighs for seat in moves, and smaller to grip more firmly for SIF. KH seats are taller in profile therefore I’ve never spent the time or money on em since I don’t like the excessive padding. The Naomi and nimbus flat both look great to me, since that’s what I’ve shaped my seats after. I like the nimbus a bit better on paper since it has the new stiff base, the Naomi looks like the old velo base which I already have several of and isnt very stiff for 75$!. I currently have a nimbus flat on order to try out, I’ll post here when I’ve ridden it a while.
The Nimbus Flat is the same seat base and foam as the KH Slim, the only difference is in the cover and the cost.
The Nimbus Gel and KH street are the same as well, other than cost and cover.
For Trials you spend less time on the saddle, so you probably want a saddle that is thin and easy to grab, ie the street or the flat/slim.
All current model KH and Nimbus saddled have the same base, grab handle, and bumper, so the real difference is in the cut of the foam.
I don’t know the Naomi or Impact, but the bases are either Velo (old Nimbus, old KH) or they are the new KH. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t imagine that Impact or Naomi paid to have a new base molded.
I just finished “remodeling” a Nimbus Flat, it is a nice seat, has the KH base, “no hole” grab, cover is stapled on so use until it’s trashed, taped it up and/or glue abrasions as you go, when it’s time for a new cover you can get one for $15, and you’ve still spent $10 less than a KH.
What you don’t want is a KH seat with the beathable fabirc top, your arse will sweat through the top and your seat will smell like… well you get the picture.
There really isn’t that much difference in seats, three or four foam designs, that’s it, hence the minimal feedback on your question.
Although I haven’t ridden a KH slim, I think the Naomi has the nicest saddle cover and foam of all the slim saddles.
The cover is thick and durable without being grabby. Unlike the Nimbus flat- it’s not stapled on, which I like because it means it’s easier to modify (or transplant to my NNC Flatfish).
Otherwise yes, there isn’t much difference between brands because the bases are from the same molds (but the Naomi is the old KH base).
Nimbus saddles are the same as KH??!!! I knew the handles and bases were the same, but I had no idea that everything else was too.
The handle, base, and bumper are the same, but the foam and the cover are different.
For trials, street and flat, the Nimbus or KH is a lot better because of the new KH seatbase. The difference in stiffness and strength is huge, especially if you get the KH stiffener plate. The Impact saddle has the old Velo base, which is really flexy. Of course, you could get the Impact and put a carbon fiber base in it, but that’s unnecessary and expensive if you are just starting out.
