a friend of mine has an animated picture of a crawling frog, and it has a white background. I’ve been trying to make it have a transparent background, but still animated, and I can’t figure out how to do it… I’ve attached the picture of the one I made to make the background transparent, and my problem is pretty obvious.
does anyone know how to fix this?

You need to tell it to redraw everything on each new frame. What program are you using?
I’m using the GIMP.

Jagur, I was wondering the same thing, this is her picture.
You have to do some overdrawing …
IE: Draw over where the frogs last step was
… and use ‘combine’ frames.
So … you need to grab the background color ‘frame’ from this forum.
So, it will ‘look’ transparent here only
(Unless you find another forum with this same grey color)

I know that it is possible to make .gif animations with transparency, like this picture:
Dismantle that one and see how it works 
This is the frog in it’s ‘dismantled form’ using Gimp2
You can see how the the other frames ‘overwrite’
hmm, that’s strange. they all appear somewhat off center. and they don’t have a transparent background in that one. in the GIMP for me, they all do have a transparent background.
That one uses ‘replace’
So the provious frame is erased…? (I don’t know)

argh, you just beat me to it!! my other computer has GIMP v1 instead of v2, so it was more confusing. I came to this one, renamed each frame to framex (100ms) (replace)
and BOOM it worked!

I made this one a while ago. What I’d really like to do is spend the time increasing the frame rate to at least twice this…now that would look smooth.
Don’t worry though, it won’t be used as my avitar.
