The space unicycle

As you know if you attach a cable to the earth and stretch it into space 24000 miles into space the centrifugal force of the earth will keep it tight and it will not fall back down to earth. So I thought why not build a unicycle that tall. You will need a generator in the pedals and a motor in the wheel. Even if the cable is only 2mm wide it is still a heavy structure to move so you will need to do a lot of pedaling. When it is not in use it will need to be tied down to keep the wind from moving it and you may as well put a robot on the top. I think aliens that can walk on two legs are rare in the galaxy. This is an in your face monument about what we cann do.

Will there be a complimentary spy satellite with it as well? It might be hard to see obstacles on the ground from 24000 miles away

One interesting problem you’d face with the pedal-by-wire setup is the signal would take just .12 seconds to transmit to the wheel, whereas the physical feedback of the wheel moving would take a whopping ~2h to travel at the speed of sound through the cable frame of the unicycle

At least a UPD should be impossible as the rider would also be held up by centrifugal force. Otherwise it would cause a heck of a lot of damage and the rider would have a lot of time to consider life choices on the way down.

Also, that motor had better have a massive gear ratio to get anywhere relative to the length of the “frame” (possible object of mass destruction itself?). As the rider can’t see the terrain, i think you’d need the wheel to be big enough to ride over anything.

Now envisioning an astronaut cheerily riding a unicycle while on the ground a massive death roller lays waste to a large area!

Who’s asking where my other wheel is now???
