I’ve been knitting for about 3 years now. I’ve made a few scarves, and right now I’m working on my first pair of mittens. It’s going pretty good, but they are quite bit more difficult then scarves.
I tried getting into knitting, and starting out with a simple beanie, but I couldnt get it right. I still have my stuff, so Ill try it again, cause I njoyed having somethign to do with my hands while I was bored or watching tv.
I can’t knit but I can crotchet, and have made some pretty cool beanies! It’s really easy once you learn the basic stitch, great way to zone out on the couch for a few hours and pass the time. Usually just do it in winter though when its cold and sitting inside doesnt feel wierd.
When I was 10 I knit a scarf for my dog, but that’s as far as I went with it. Hm… Now that I’m in college… Maybe I should start knitting my own clothes… It might work out to be cheaper. Hehe.
I was always finding that I didn’t have time to knit either. So I just started knitting at school. Most days I just sit by my locker and knit during lunch. Or if I’m having a really boring class and not learning anything I’ll just start knitting.
I used to do a lot of knitting - soft toys, jumpers (I used to design them for my kids). I also used to be pretty good at crocheting. I haven’t done any for many years though. Probably since I discovered computers.
I knit. I used to do sweaters, hats, mittens and more complicated items, but I only do scarves now. I recently taught my daughter to knit, which was cool. She wants to learn to do hats so I’ll have to dig out some old patterns and instructions.
Here’s my holiday scarf and a black and burgundy number I’m working on now for my wife.
See, Brazil is VERY big. We have all kinds of weather here… And in my city, it reachs -4ºC. I know it’s not THAAAT cold, but for me yeah… It’s cold!
Matt, do me a very heavy one!
Raphael, those scarves look really nice. I have only used a very basic knitting pattern in scarves so far, but I plan to make a multicoloured one next, with black and white stripes.
I just finished my first pair of mittens today in math class. I think I’m going to redo the first one because it is a bit too small and the thumb whole isn’t nearly big enough. Neither one of them really turned out very well, the thumb is in the wrong spot on both of them.
The thumbs do look a little high up, but hey, they’re your first ones. The pattern is nice and you’ve got the basic shape right. And no doubt they’ll be nice and warm. Good work.
I have a big head, and big hair, this makes for a slight problem. Most toques don’t fit me or don’t fit very well, especially ones with ear flaps as you can’t just not fold them up like on regular toques.
I decided to take up knitting and make my self a good heavy weight wool toque with ear flaps. I added 50% to all the stitch counts on the pattern and went to town making my own 3 colour design. It went really well and looked really good but then when I tried it on it was only slightly bigger than a regular toque.
I gave it away and now one of my non unicycling friends has a toque with the design of a stick man falling off a unicycle on the front and iUPD written on the back.
Using 3 colours for your first project is not recommended but definitely doable!
I will probably make another one this winter but will probably go with only one colour and double the stitch counts.
That’s impressive. My first project was a scarf that had lots of mistakes and was very crooked looking. You must be a natural to have been able to use 3 colours right away.
I just started my first multicoloured project. A black and white scarf. I’m not really sure how to do this, so I’m just going to start using a different colour of yarn every 10 rows or so, and see if it works.
